Kidnapped Karen Girl Enslaved By Cruel Thai Couple

This story is like a festering sore for Thailand. Therefore this story will fade away, and the monsters will certainly never be brought to justice. Too much face to be lost in a trial. The thundering silence from Yingluck, The Champion of Women in Thailand, was the first tip off of where this story would go. Cambodia has to be a bit boring for these monsters, unless they are now torturing a little Khymer girl.. Am sure they will be back soon, probably just a matter of stopping by their house to find them. Hmmm guess I could do that and pick up the 100,000 baht reward money ???

I do wish one of these so called reporters in Thailand would have the gonads to question Yingluck as to her complete silence on this terrible case of human rights abuse. After all she is a champ of women or so she said. Actions speak louder than words.

True P1 but words are all that's needed to look good.

Clicked on to the last page of this to see if there was any updates on this story and all I see is more crap from the nation bashers.

How about you lot trying to write a story in Thai for a Thai paper.

Well, Robby . . . I have yet to find anyone here who claims to be proficient enough in Thai to write for a Thai=language newspaper - or who actually does write in Thai for a Thai newspaper.

Do you see the difference?

Not only that, but if the paper was a free community rag, then of course a lot of slack would be cut, but the Nation is an English language paper that charges money to buy it.

I found it interesting that I sent links about this story to every large international news organization, and never heard back from a single one of them. Maybe if a story is too horrific, the media does not want to touch it.. Edited by EyesWideOpen

Are there actually any updates on this story? Or has it already all gone forgotten?

As you could witness the man-hunting reward was the perfect time-compensating way, to help that criminal pair out of trouble, and at the same time saving face for the police authorities that were connected to that criminal pair, just creating a public image for the international communities as a diversion..,

"Forgiven and forgotten" the Thai way...

You recent posters are not following the program of Thainess..... This story is unpleasant , and is supposed to fade away. If people keep posting about it, then the story comes back to life. Hey maybe we can set up a pool and hire a bounty hunter to track the monsters down..

Probably forgotten and still not one single word from PM Yingluck, the champion of women's rights and women's empowerment in Thailand. Utterly shameful. I suspect she would have a different attitude if it was her daughter. But hey it's only a low life Karen girl so who cares right?

Champion of Upper-class, Thai-Chinese, Well-connected women's rights, to be clear.

It would be interesting to know:

- Whether the neighbors have seen the couple since their 'disappearance'. Or seen other relatives at the house.

- What's happened to their dog grooming shop. Was it totally and instantly abandoned? What were the other employees told, and by whom? Is it still being operated by a relative or a friend, and if so are they in contact with the torturers?

Not expecting any answers of course.

I posted up a small recent update to the story here yesterday from Thairath and Daily News (Thai) but it was removed, presumably because these are Thai language newspapers, so we'll have to wait for further updates from the English language press. Hopefully something will be along soon.

This story cannot be allowed to disappear.

I formally request that the Thai Visa owners/ senior partners speak to their business connections or a senior reporter at the Nation to get this story back in the public eye.

Thank you.

Well, it's been nearly two months, and not a word in the English language media.

Does anyone have any information on this horrible story, or has it simply faded away, as is so often the case in Thailand?

Fade away.....fade away.......gone..

Every time I see this story I feel ill. If I was a betting man, I would say

the couple are right back in their house. I am sure Cambodian life on the run would get boring to them after a while, unless they could find a little Cambodia girl to torture.

It's up to the Thai's, everywhere, to voice their absolute outrage. Channel 3, national press, whatever.

A bunch of expats saying all the right things gets nowhere I am afraid. I hope this poor little girl gets the psychological care that she needs.

Land of Smiles? I am disgusted!

As it appears they are still on the run, I assume the police have made moves to have all their bank accounts frozen so that they cannot continue their extended holiday.

Lest we forget.

Thanks to all above for your comments and links.

YouTube has two clips on this, but as you will note, there's no interest and no useful follow up comments.

I've chosen not to post the links; they are easy enough to find. Unfortunately, although they do contain mug shots of the scum responsible for this, the vids. also contain footage and stills of the previous photo op circus, when this first surfaced in February this year.

The US Department of State has just been published its Trafficking in Persons Report 2013. http://www.state.gov/j/tip/rls/tiprpt/2013/index.htm

It makes for sobering reading.

The case of the little Karen girl is highlighted as is the horrendously insensitive treatment of her by the so-called authorities.

...in one severe case, in which a female child belonging to an ethnic minority was kidnapped, abused, and enslaved over the course of fve years, a judge’s misguided decision to grant bail allowed the suspected offenders to fee and escape prosecution.

and later.

'The government did not ensure that child victims’ rights were protected; in a highly-publicized case of a 12-year-old Karen girl who had been enslaved in a Thai couple’s home for five years, police offcials allowed media outlets to publish the girl’s name and take semi-nude photos of her while in police custody.'

Needless to say,and in general, the report states, 'In addition to the well known corruption of local-level police officers, there were also protective relationships between central-level specialist police offcers and the trafficking hot-spot regions to which they were assigned. Thai police offcers and immigration offcials reportedly extorted money or sex from Burmese citizens detained in Thailand for immigration and sold Burmese migrants unable to pay labor brokers and sex traffickers.'

The report is also very critical of the government's poor record on arrest and conviction.

Overall, Thailand has been placed on Tier 2, but will be automatically downgraded to Tier 3 next year if things do not tangibly improve.

That's a fairly damming report. So after being on the Tier 2 watchlist for three years, why wasn't Thailand downgraded to Tier3?

Why not Thaivisa or the farangs start a donation to help the poor girl...

Are you Thai?

Just asking, because normally I get answers like "you don't know Thainess" from your likes or "If you don't like how we handle things here, go home!".

Why not Thaipeople (to use your way of speaking) start a donation to help the poor girl?

Oh...right...she is poor and not Thai, so...none of your problem, right?!

It seems that the Nation has chosen not to report on the US Department of State, Trafficking in Persons Report 2013 published yesterday. The report covers the case of the Karen girl in some detail.

May I urge interested readers to visit http://www.state.gov/j/tip/rls/tiprpt/2013/index.htm for more detailed information and, hopefully, to generate further discussion on this important topic.

Thank you.
