how many here are guilty of"chimping" while street shooting

Coming from a film background, i seldom look at the back screen and often dont even look at my shots for a week or more after i shot them,.

http://erickimphotography.com/blog/2011/10/24/10-reasons-why-you-should-never-chimp-while-shooting-street-photography/

When i used to travel back in the 70-80's i sometimes wouldn't see my developed slides/negatives for months after they were shot.

^^^ PR...I only look at my "dailies" after they're on the computer.

With a brand new camera I may chimp a few shots while out on

the first stroll with it...just to ensure all is well...then after that,

nah...I can wait till on the computer. Same as you, back in the

daze of film we all trusted our gear, our knowledge and waited

until we processed our stuff. Then we either laughed or smiled

or cussed!!!

That said...these days, if a subject asks to see their pic I gladly

let em have a look at the screen and...if they want a print the

next day they have a print...in most cases anyway. The only

real exception is if I'm leaving the area soon & don't have the

time to return...however I can usually make the time to stay

a day or two....

NB...edit to add the last bit.

^^^ Great Shot FR! The poor guy looks as though he's thoroughly fed up

with shopping! I reckon the consoling from the lady just ain't doing much

good either. The shot has it all in it...timing, expressions, eye lines (the girl

in the backgound looking at the couple) and..."honey I only need 5000 baht

more for that outfit" from the lady's hand & his "not again" expression...

It Works! Brilliant!

Thanks.

I think he was the owner. Maybe sales not going so well. I liked that everyone had a potential story; even the dummy seems to have an opinion!

A penny for her her thoughts ... truly beautiful, Shaggy. Is there a story?

Right! There's something going on with her. To me she appears to feel powerless.

Her thoughts are fairly clear to me...she is most probably wishing that the

Baht she needs to make from the stall will be going directly into her pockets

rather than mum & pops. She's not daft to her friends "stuff" and mosy likely

desires the same or better. Or...perhaps she just wants a better life...somewhere

else. Then again...maybe she has to use the loo really badly....hmmmmmm.

Who know's what the story is behind that young girls eyes tangaroa, but the sad and empty look in her face left me with a slight feeling of sadness also.

I had noticed her staring out into nothingness when we first arrived at the market but figured by the time I get close enough for a shot she would of snapped

out of it,so I didn't even bother and just meandered my way around the different stands with my Missus and little boy gathering food from the different stall on

the way.I didn't think anymore about her until my little boy saw a stall selling children's DVD's.......it was her stall, and she was still in that little world of her own.

This is where I offer my apologies and excuses for the crappy quality of the photo, left hand full of snow fish, cabbages and numerous other veggies and my right

arm being tugged by my little boy wanting to show me the latest Ben10 DVD.Whilst all this was happening the young girl stayed fixed in her trance and it wasn't

until my little one asked her a question (in his loud excited voice) about Ultraman that she snapped out of it and came back to our world.

I would of loved to of had a stall opposite her and the opportunity to do some time lapse photography.

No need to apologise, Shaggy. I think you've captured her melancholia beautifully.
