Driving Directions To Hua Hin (Best Route)

Have to drive to Hua Hin next week from the North, Phetchabun province.

Google maps Thailand has me going around the west ring road Route 9. Went that way a few years back en route to Samui and it was a bit of a pain.

How about going through middle of Bangkok on the expressways, a better way, full of tolls I expect.

Coming from Chaiyaphum I always take the 9. Easy, straightforward route.

If you are familiar with Bangkok tollways then Bing Maps says through the middle is quicker. Me? I would turn left onto Hwy 1 and drive the short distance to 9 (still toll) and follow that south as there are no route changes until you meet 35.

Bing actually direct you to Hwy 21 if using 9 rather than 2 if using elevated expressways.

Add 1 hour? and you can avoid Bangkok by going west near Kanchanaburi. Is traffic less? don't know.

I'd probably take the Outer Ring road to the bottom of Rama 2 depending on time/day of travel.

Thanks chaps, that is the way I went, Kanchanaphisek Road. Big traffic jam on the 9 after leaving the 1, a tanker had left the south bound carriage way and a huge crane had to be brought in. What is going on in Nonthaburi area?, big construction site with overhead railway or expressway. Routes 35 & 4 are good roads but watch all the undertaking going on, and are those Commuter mini vans all driven by ex F1 drivers??!

Have GPS? Use it. Set it for shortest route. The best thing you can have here.
