Bluetooth Mouse Was Driving Me Mad On Windows 7

Featured Replies

Laptop Sony VAIO Product code VPCF21Z1E

Microsoft 5000 BT Mouse

Windows 7, 64 bit. built in BT enabled.

Every now and again the mouse stopped working.

If I switched the mouse off and back on it often started working again but when it didn't then,

Using the touchpad and control panel devices and printers and starting the Troubleshooter on the mouse often fixed the problem.

Sometimes, I had to resort to removing the mouse and reinstalling it.

All very frustrating.

The root cause of this problem lies in the BlueTooth configuration.

By selecting the BT icon, open settings, then

Select the hardware tab, then on the root BT device

select Properties, then

Select Change Settings then

Select Power Management

Now uncheck the box "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"

Another way to find this check box is to use the control devices and printers,

Right click the mouse and select Properties then

Select the Hardware Tab, then highlight the HID compliant mouse and click properties.

Select Change Settings then

Select Power Management

Now uncheck the box "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"

Only time will tell if this needs to be done again, e.g. after changing the power plan, does it automatically get set to "save power"?
