Dear TV members,

Unfortunately I am in a position where by notifying my employer of my intention not to sign another years contract would likely be used against me and I would lose money owed to me and be placed in very difficult situations. Therefore I am considering the option of simply playing along to get what is owed then leaving. I have a new job lined up already. Essentially what I am considering is just exiting the country thereby cancelling my non-B and extension of stay and returning on a new visa. My concern is any potential problems that may arise from not cancelling the work permit through the proper channels. I regret that I am having to resort to this action but I am left little choice.

Any advice would be appreciated.

If it is the end of contract and date you are allowed to work according to the WP, there is no need to cancel it. If your WP is valid after the date you resign from job, you must cancel it. Not doing so might result in problems if you apply for a new WP with your new employer.

Simply go to labour with your WP and show your contract is ended and will not be renewed. Or ask your employer for a letter to cancel the WP on your last day of work and go with it to the labour office.

You are also required to cancel an extension of stay on the day employment ends if the extension is based on that employment. Although not likely your leaving could be prevented until that is done if found at exit point.

Normal procedure is to cancel extension (visas are not cancelled) at immigration with letter stating the last day of your employment is that date. You could then have to get a 7 day extension (1900 baht) or leave within 24 hours.
