Hi Guys,

I just found out that the date for my first year renewal of my temporary driving license have just past (24 Feb). Is is still possible to renew it to a 5 year license?

The first license was issued in BKK but i'm now living in Jomtien. Do i have to go BKK or can i renew it here in Jomtien/Pattaya?

.... Do i really need "Original Residence Certificate from Thai Immigration or your Embassy" if i have Work Permit?

Some mentions that no medical certificate is needed either.

What do you say?

Actually the one year license has to be expired before applying for the 5 and some have reported several months after expiration have been accepted so you are fine. A work permit satisfies the proof of residency. Some places may require the medical so need local knowledge for your particular transportation department.

I have read something like that too that it is no problems if already expired.

For Pattaya-Jomtien, I was required in late October to show a medical certificate for upgrading from 1-year to 5-year. I remember it well because I thought I had everything when my GF drove from Jomtien to pick me up in Pattaya and drive me to the Banglamung DLT office but had to turn around within 5 minutes and drive the 10 km back to Pattaya Klang to find a clinic. Not a happy girl.

After that, 5-year renewals do not require a med certificate. Odd that, but true.

By the way, the road to the DLT office is easy to miss (guilty twice!). After the Regent's School, you're on a downhill slight lefthand bend. At the apex roughly is a nondescript narrow road turning left, with some Thai language signs. Wish I could remember something more detailed but maybe others can note a good signpost.

Thanks guys so much.

So, a medical cert is needed but no Residence Certificate is needed. Good.

My first license was issued in BKK and now i will renew it in Pattaya. Any problems do you think? I have a BKK address but stays in Jomtien a large part of the year. Any problems with that do you think?

Thanks

I've only ever paid about 20-40Baht at any number of roadside clinics, all of about 5 minutes, and they were accepted. Thus no need for a hospital check-up in my experience
