Hello

Just had a quick visa question.

I'm currently here in Thailand on a double 60 day visa. Do I need to leave and return to Thailand via air to get activate the second 60 days or can I head over the border via land to activate the new 60 days?

Secondly, my daughter and her mother are on 1 year visa. (daughter is at full time international school). There first 3 months are coming the end and need to leave the country. Again do they need to leave via air or can they go over the border via land to get another 90 days without leaving the country.

Regards

Land is okay. You can extend each 60 day permission to stay for 30 more days at immigration without leaving Thailand. The cost is 1900 baht. But you must make your second entry on or befor ethe "must enter by" date on the VISA.

Why have your wife/daughter not used the extension of stay provisions? They could both be here without border runs if they want to extend during the last 30 days of any 90 day entry. Student for study with paperwork from school (section 2.9 of police order 777/2551) and wife as her mother showing her extension and 500k in bank account (section 2.11). That is what most people do.

Thank you for your response Lite Beer and Wayne,

I have already extended my 60 day visa by another 30 days already.

Thank you lopburi3, we are unable to do this for wife and child as we do not have bank account over here.

At least we can just drive to Ranong and cross the border, instead of flying.

There would not be any need for daughter as school paperwork would take care of her extension of stay - but if wife has to leave anyhow guess they do together so not an issue.
