My Apartment Building Just Posted Increased Electric And Water Rates

Recommended Posts

They are claiming that both electricity and water have increased so they have increased the rates by about 30%. The electricity went from 7B to 9B a unit and the water from 17B to 23B a unit. For those of you that are billed directly from the utility companies, how much are you paying per unit for electricity and water.

This along with paying 'refundable deposits' is just another way Thai's use for extracting 'falang' money, the latest I have experienced is paying 300 THB a day for internet connection because it is 3G!

In CM the util companies charge

Electricity works out at about 4bht/unit for 250 units, inc tax and energy premium.

But the more units you use, the more they charge per unit.

Water is 15bht/unit.

Lucky if you get electricity for 3 baht a unit. By the time you add the fuel surcharge and VAT it's a lot more - my January bill has a base price of 3.6 but finally works out at 4.4 per unit. 9 baht is a bit OTT though...

Posted

for info; I used 33 m3 water last month total charge was 689bt, thats in total 20.87bt per unit.

note the charge includes a general service charge of 30bt and tax of 45bt.

so your charge of 23bt is not unreasonable,.............but you know what to do if you are not happy...........DONT USE IT !!

Good God/Buddha/Allah did they use any Vaseline on you for 300 baht a day internet?

As for utilities we pay 6 baht a unit and water is free. Would not surprise me if they up the electricity.

They just gave all the staff a raise and am expecting them to look at us to help defray the cost.sad.png

One of my neighbors who has been here for 7 years just moved and had absolutely no problem getting her deposit back.

Water - from a well. Electricity - 4.2b/unit (vat etc inclusive, i.e. total bill / number of units).

Just one reason I'll never, ever live in one of those hideous farangville estates or a condo... tongue.png

Edit: Just checked the bill for the other house. Seems to me your condo is working on a 50% margin (100% markup) for both water and electricity.

I have a 3 br house, running large fridge, TV, lots of low energy fluoro lamps, Microwave, fans, and occasional use of the bedroom air con. Power bill has not been more than 800 THB per month.

Water for kitchen, washing machine, showers and the lawn sprinkler (moved around for about 2 hrs per week ), is a consistent 90THB a month.

Internet is fast, connected to my wi-fi, using 3BBB, and costs 963 THB per month. Unlimited upload or download.

Stop complaining and turn your fridge and freezer off.

Bags of ice are still 8THB at 7-11.

I am so tired of you Farangs who wont adapt to the Thai way of living...

People here seem to be talking apples and oranges. The basic rate is what you pay in a house. Also if you own your condo. But for renting you have to pay the management for the utilities and they all have a mark up. Some of it justified some not. It cost them money for other electrical outlets in the building and doing the billing. How much is open to discussion.

I am very sure they would be willing to charge you more for rent if you made it worth their while to only charge you what they pay for it. If it is a problem paying the extra utility ask them if you can pay more for rent.cheesy.gif

If you own your own Condo you pay direct to the utility service and avoid you think the mark up. You just pay it in your monthly maintenance fee. It can be cheaper in some cases this way.

I have a house in Phuket.

I pay 3.5thb per KWH for electricity and the water (as invoiced by the Poo Yai Ban) is never any more than 120thb per month.

I also have an apartment in Town for entertaining.

Electricity is 8thb per KWH and water is a flat 200thb per month.

Whenever there is ANYONE between you and the bills from the utility company you will pay a middle man (or woman) skimmer.

The only refereshing thing about the utility charges on my apartment is that my hi so Thai neighbours also pay the same rate as me.

Also the only time I use the aircon in my apartment is when I am sweating heavily...which is, if I am lucky...a couple of times each week.

But...to be frank...I don't give a toss about the cost of utilities here. My last electricity bill when I left Australia was roughly 35,0000 THB. I am not going to grind my teeth over a 1500 THB bill here in the Land Of Skimmers...

That is not 100%accurate. If you are a company as in condo owner it us classified as a business and its at least 23 b per cu m. In adfitipn the cost if electricity to pump the water to the roof is not insignuficant.

Unless PEA costs for electricity vary across the country some of you are getting electricity below cost (not begrudging you )

In Rayong, depending on the amount of units used per month, a couple of our bills for last month are 4.15 and 4.71 baht/KWh. These are official PEA bills inclusive of VAT and Ft charges and are paid at the local PEA office.

Water (again official) for 39 cubic meters was 22.16 baht/cu m . Another bill was the minimum charge for business premises ie 353.1 baht as only 7cu m were used.

Just posted for info.

Down Pattaya way my water just went up from B31 to B40, this is the rate charged for private owners and everyone is on the same rate, seems steep after reading this.

Electric is B5.2 paid directly to the electric company

Aircons and especially showers are the main users, but hey, why not just move into a cave?

As stated, you are being bent over, op; tell them to eff off and move on. However, expect more of the same wherever you go... everything is destined for a logarithmic rise.

Sometimes a cheap condo is like a discount airline, looks cheap at first but they get you on the extras. Also not all condos are on direct electric and owners may not realise it, often they run through management and you get hit up. Unless you are billed direct you are probably being overcharged, see about changing to a government meter if that is the case.

Electric 4.14/unit

If you own the condo dont go through the management

Go to the Electric company & set up your own account.

We did that over a year ago.

We also have them direct withdraw the monthly bill from an account we setup for that purpose.

Water, I will have to remember to check the usage next month but we pay

approx 330 baht a month. We do wash clothes etc. So it may be higher than some

for a couple.

I read through this topic and I see members quoting a rate of 3 baht and then 3.5 baht. I can tell you we pay about 4.8 baht/kW direct to electric company. I say 'about' as there is a variable 'index' factor applied each month (something to do with fuel costs). The way electricity is charged in Thailand is quite variable, depends on whether single phase or 3 phase, depends on private transformer of public transformer, depends on volume of usage. I don't know any condo developments charging less than 6 baht, and many charge a lot more.

4 bedroom, 3 bath 2 story house 5 air conditioners but usually only one in the master bedroom used and lots of fans and appliances and two plasma TVs, electric usage below (standard PEA rates, direct bill). Water normally around 85 Baht per month for 10 units.

That is true if you pay through the condo.

Which is why I would urge anyone that owns their condo to

deal directly with the electric company for the true rate.

It was very easy to set up. Although we did have to make a run back & forth to the

bank with a paper the electric company gave us to allow the direct withdrawal each month

for the bill. But we still get the written bill/stub mailed to us each month for our records.

When I cross check it with the bank online I see the account we set up for paying them through

BAY does tack on 5 baht to the total. Fair enough wink.png

But yes very easy for an owner to get away from that inflated charge

To be honest, I'm not sure why the charges are is so low. Actually my previous place the cost was nearly the same though did hit a peak of around 140 Baht one time. wink.png

I did have one OTT bill at this place. A pvc pipe outside popped loose and my wife rushed to turn the water valve off at the street side. She was right next to the pipe when it went and she was not a happy camper (think wet kitten). biggrin.png I re-glued the PVC back on and went out to turn the valve on and guessed which of the two was the correct one. Turned them both on. Month later got a water bill for 2400+ baht. Don't know what that extra valve was for but promptly turned it off and water still was running fine in the house.

What a stupid statement

Is the Thai way of living being ripped off? Of course not most Thais have to watch each and every Baht they spend

The OP is paying double the rate for his electric and is being lied to by the management about the price of Electric going up

If you think there is nothing wrong with that then you must get some sort of sexual thrill when you get overcharged for something

Don't get me started on water costs. Just pulled out my bill for water last month. 45 cubic liters, 770 baht + meter charge 30 baht + tax 56 baht = 856 baht. That's direct government water bill. So that's 19.02 baht per 1,000 liters.
