I’ll be in BKK in late July and am studying the best way to get to Cambodia for about 3/4 nights – staying one night in Phnom Penh, and 2 nights in Siem Reap (the 4th night is the alternative in case I can’t leave Siem Reap cheap). I can find cheap flights through Airasia to Phnom Penh, the problem seems to be leaving cheap from Siem Reap. Can you advise on the better options?

Another thing I would really appreciate some feed back is about how to get from the Capital to Siem Reap (air, river, road?), and where to find this transports (always combining cheap and fast… if possible).

Take the boat one way from Phnom Penh .... great 1/2 day + trip .... about 23-25 dollars last Nov ....

I highly reccomend California2 Guesthouse in Phnom Penh (google surf cambodia to find them)

take the bus the other way (lots cheaper than the boat ... but really ... do the boat one way)

give yourself another day at least ... maybe 2

When we went everybody told us not to take the boat - all day stuck in the sun, no worthwhile scenery. We ended up hiring a van to take us to Siam Reap and back for $45 each roundtrip.

I second the reccomendation for California 2 guest house. Jim the manager is a good guy.

It is probably worthwhile to get back to Phenom Penh to leave Cambodia, everything from Siam Reap is going to be expensive.

i loved the boat trip ... you'll see different types of village live all the way up. really pretty ... probably worth only doing it on the way up and getting there early enough to sit inside if you are worried about the sun.

I just reccomend bringing some food and water and sunblock ... and sitting up top!
