Red Plates - How Long Should It Take To Get Registered And Get White Plates?

Hi

I purchased a new car in May 2012 from Tiansan Motors in Phuket. Almost 1 year later I am still on red plates. When I call the salesperson I always get "two months" and some excuse.

What is the process and how long should it take? Has anyone else had the same problem in Phuket?

Thanks for your help.

By current law they are required to supply the fixed plates within 30 days. However, there has been a production shortage of plates for some time now. But, 10 months is ridiculous and I would go to the land transport department directly and complain to them about the dealer.

Go to Tiansin and tell them you want the plates now.

Did you receive the blue book already? probably not, because most probably they have not yet paid the DLT but are simply sitting on the money.

For my new Mazda it took 2 months in Phuket.

Good points if it was a lump sum purchase but if the OP is still buying on finance, he won't have the blue book yet.

In that instance, the OP needs to confirm if he even has the road tax sticker. That will have the vehicle's proper registration number on it (the number that would be on the white plates). If he doesn't even have that after a year, then there's a much bigger issue.

Either way, this salesman needs a kick up the arse and a personal visit and a meeting with the owner of the dealership to get this sorted out is the best way to go. Is the OP calling the salesman on the latter's mobile number? We had a lazy salesman giving us a similar runaround a few years back until we went to the branch and found out he had 'transferred' to another branch 50 km up the road. When we phoned them, they said he had been fired already. The original dealership eventually came up with the paperwork and plates but it was almost a year.

And speaking of red plates, make sure you have an original one and not a fake.. :> You should also have a brown color book accompanying those red plates where you should write down every trip across provinces. BIBs usually target red plate cars because they know they will always find an irregularity, e;g; you cannot drive 6 PM to 6 AM, you need special authorization from the provincial DLT from travelling to another province, etc..

I try to get rid of the red plates ASAP!

Thanks for your assistance. I have no tax sticker, no blue book and yes I have been calling the salesman on his mobile. I only have a Sales Agreement and insurance policy.

Go to Tiansin and give them shit. Don't settle for the sales guy, go to the boss.

If that doesn't help, go to the DLT yourself. The only reason you don't have the white plates and tax sticker is because Tiansin did not pay the DLT.

If you do a search there was something in the PG about this about 1 year ago I think.
