As long as people stick to the legal limits, all is well.

So basically (when driving from Tachong/Lahan Sai direction) you turn right towards the border rather than left and into Ban Kruat town.

Much closer than I thought :-) ... cheers

No you don't. Coming from Lahansai when you hit the junction with the road to Ban Kruad, instead of turning left to Ban Kruad you go straight ahead as though you were going to Kap Choeng. It's signposted. Travel along this road until you hit Soi number 6 then turn right. This soi takes you to the market.

The market is open on Friday and Saturday mornings. It gets very crowded. You will be charged 20baht for the privilege of parking your car in the bush.

Don't exceed the maximum amount of cigarettes or liquor allowed. If you buy large amounts on the Cambodian side the vendors will likely tip off the Thai Customs or Border guards. No doubt there is a 'kick back' system involved. They are quite likely to check your vehicle even when you have left the market area. Cardholder got nabbed in Prackhonchai 40kms from the market.
