I've tried everything, Frontline, Advocate, Bayticol, Revolution, Heartguard, Prac-Tic, Top-Choice, and others I can't remember, plus about every shampoo available from local pet shops and vets, nothing worked for more than a month as the ticks grow immune to the drug.

The latest product I'm using, which also happens to be the best so far, and the cheapest, is Ivermec Plus 1.54%. Its a once a month injection vaccine and it works for:

Internal parasites:

Gastro-interstinal roundworms; Ascaris suum (adults and fourth stage larvae); Hyostrengylus rubidud (adults and fourth stage larvae); Oesophagostomum spp (adults and fourth stage larvae); Strongyloides (adults); Lungworm; Metastrongylus spp (adults).

External parasites:

Haematopinus suis (lice); Sarcoptes scabiei var. suis (mites)

I don't know why ticks are not on this list provided with original packaging (50% English/Thai instructions), but its sold as a tick remedy and it certainly works on my dog. Product of choice for vets worldwide and imported product.

Available from Thai pet website http://www.mypuppypetshop.com (IE with google toolbar translated it pretty good), cost 140B, syringes + needles 7B each. One 140B bottle will last 15-20 kilo dog 10 months. I ordered two packs for myself and a friend, total cost including EMS 435B, arrived in two days.

I live in the jungle and my property has no perimeter walls so its impossible to prevent the ticks getting on my dog, I normally pick off about 30 to 50 ticks off her everyday, this stuff kills the ticks as soon as they bite her, now about 90% of what I pick off her are already dead.

We nearly lost our dog because of a blood infection from these bastard ticks, I hope this information can be as helpful to others as it has been for our dog.

Good info, thanks. I used a similar avermectin based product in the UK in my greenhouse for two-spotted spider mite infestation and ongoing control.

Nothing else worked at all.

It seems to deal with a lot of other parasites at the same time so I expect that your dog is going to benefit in other ways. I might well dose my dogs too as a preventative/cure of unknown parasites and general well being. Good to know the supplier here, cheers.

Ivermec is a an effective vaccine for internal parasites, heartworm, also an effective control of external parasites such as mites but not ticks. The doses required to control ticks and mange are excessive and could cause other problems. There are many topical applications that can be used to control ticks and fleas, but it keeping the pet's environment clean and free of bugs is the key.

Actually once you've cured the mange and eliminated most ticks, the chewable ivermectin tablet is effective.

The 'Front... ' packs and similar expensive pills have never worked for my tribe of Rotts.

See my post #38 VORMEC PLUS (ivermectin tablets) (FOR DOGS ONLY) is the solution to almost all your troubles; with photo. wai.gif

Actually once you've cured the mange and eliminated most ticks with the mentioned liquid Ivermec, the chewable ivermectin tablet is really effective.

BTW this topic was also covered a year ago at: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/523835-cant-get-rid-of-ticks-help/

All good input –

you can see mine at #38 with photo:

Batocol - none worked. Ticks went on about their blood feast on my Rotts as if nothing occurred….”
