Hi everyone,

I'm looking at taking the family to Japan for some skiing in January '14.

However, when searching the usual places (agoda, hotels.com, etc) there is nothing available.

Is it that popular that there is no accommodation 9 months out, or do they not release their rooms until closer to the dates?

Thanks,

Wow...very interesting. I haven't been to Japan many times, but I do know when I spent 6 months in China traveling around, the local sites were much better than the international ones. Maybe you'll have to try and deal with some of them?????

Also, it is quite early to be booking for that time next year. Maybe that's a problem also.

not sure if you checked on the ski area's such as Nagano-ken (shiga-kogen), (hakuba), (nozawa); Yamagata-Ken (zao)

you can google these location and a ton of hotels, ryokans, inns will appear; even noticed several hotels on Agoda.com

Also, once you enter Japan, you can go to the JR (Japan railway) office situated at any major stations such as JR Tokyo,

JR Shinjuku, JR Shimbashi, Shinagawa etc. and obtain the railpass as well as discount hotels at major ski resorts.

goodluck

I take the family two times a year, great snow, people and food. You will have a blast. I go to Api Kogen on the first trip early in the season, it is more suited for the kids and gets me back in the grove. The second trip ,and my favorite, is to Rusutsu, the skiing is excellent. As stated above, do some google work the resorts will pop up on Agoda. Good luck you will not regret the trip.

Just spent the last half an hour looking at room for the suggested family friendly runs above at Api Kogen, (Thanks KHR1010), you have to dig hard on Agoda and then for even a few months out in the summer as well for next season and even for next week, you can not get any prices. Bizarre. I like Agoda, but I don't know why it is on drugs for this.

Lots of hotels on Booking dot com but can anyone comment on the pricing structure, is it a japan thing? For a hotel room on all their hotels for that search, the price for a room is dependent on the number of people. Example, a room with a single person, compared to 1 room twin share is almost twice the price, <deleted> is that all about?

I am not talking about kids here.

You are correct about the room pricing in Japan. Most hotel pricing seems to be single = x and double = x * 2.

Never been but have always wanted to go to Hokkaido
