Or suspected of criminal activity. Though too easy to fake an address as, at least in Chiang Mai, they never check the validity of the address.

Strikes me that the 90-day frequency is a bit excessive. Why not every 12 months concurrent with annual extensions of stay - with a duty to notify any address change in the meantime within 24 hours (consistent with the obligation on house owners & hotels to report details of foreigners staying on their properties)?

In my humble (and cynical) view, the purpose of a 90-day reporting frequency is 2-fold:-

(1) To make life as difficult, awkward and inconvenient as possible for long-stay foreigners; and

(2) To chop down as many trees as possible in order the generate the mountains of unnecessary paperwork held at immigration offices.

Its stupid....

Some people I ask about it they say what's a 90 day report?

How do they get away with it?

more bureaucracy, money and wasting our time

Its a requirement, it happens 4 times a year, so why worry about it !!

Keep track of foreigners on limited, specific purpose visas, which is exactly what immigration (in any country) is supposed to do.

You may have other farangs and historical precedent to thank for it.

When it all gets too much, read up on the visa application processes (non-immigrant or immigrant) and costs for some "developed" countries, then crack open a beer and kick your feet up. If that doesn't work, then wait out and apply for permanent residency.

Keep track of foreigners on limited, specific purpose visas,

Actually it has nothing to do with that as those on such visas do not report there address as they do not stay more than 90 days at a time and any exit resets the clock. It is a requirement of the immigration act of more than 30 years ago so not something new.

It's a nonsense. They don't even know where their own people are let alone farangs. Yes natives have their name in a blue book but they can be anywhere. Daft stuff. coffee1.gif

Because it's stupid. Once a year and/or notify them if there's a change of address is adequate.

Its their country their rules, stupid or not. and for 4 times a year it can hardly be considered a major chore.

Most offices accept reporting by mail so wheres the hardship?

We all have a choice......

Quite right, we absolutely do have a choice,,,,,,,,,we can choose to say whether it's stupid or not.

Any criminal worth his salt would not report a correct address.

Dam_n. I figured that was factually incorrect but thought I could get away with it. Not. Well, I guess the old boys 30 years ago were rather visionary, forward thinking if not xenophobic guys; and law abiding long stays in Thailand in 2013 still get lumped in with the lowest common denominator.

Having just gone through my first non-o marriage ext, I didn't think it was that onerous and am happy Thailand has such a facility. I haven't done a 90 day yet, I'm still in my 1st 30 day "under consideration" phase. Maybe I'm not jaded enough to bitch and forget we are fortunate Thailand has such a facility in the first place. Can't say the same about my own country.

The 21st century will continue to knock, maybe bring 90 day reports on line, maybe we can use our BKK bank ATMs at out of province ATMs without a fee. Who knows?

I reckon we should report at 7/11 for 10 Baht or whatever.

Isn't it 15B at 7/11? 10B at Lotus. What about via ATM? Seems to be able to do everything else there.

I reckon we should report at 7/11 for 10 Baht.

Exactly. Right after you pay your government electric bill, or whatever. That's what I'm talking about, but again, somebody will find a way to f***k it up and 99% of us pay the price.

Like any government job it's there to provide employment to the otherwise unemployable.

I pay my True Visions, Electric, Water, Internet all at 7/11

All bills have my name and current address on, plus they prove residence.

Why on earth can't they set up scanners in 7/11 that work on a bar code (for immigration)?

I'm happy to pay for the service, like the other things.

Chiang Mai imm no longer excepts mail in. Also, those of us that work have to take the time off to do it if we have no alternate to do it for us so there is a degree of hardship for some of us. But mainly, it's a pain in the arse. biggrin.png

Like any government job it's there to provide employment to the otherwise unemployable.

Well yes, I guess the extra workload might justify the 3-5 people behind the counter at any given 7/11!

It's so cheap to hire them, why not have a bevy of 20 year olds to sell 1 slurpee, a hot dog....... and a 90 day report.

Why? So you can start a thai visa thread whinging about it.

Sent from ipad while drink.

Guess you're right (if you're talking to me, Samran). By that time, I'll be jaded and complain about everything, including the size, frequency and quality of of my bowel movements.

What to do. As I said earlier in some other post: "Retirement's a bitch." Gotta find something to moan about.

I got a whole chicken for 140 baht today, and it was only warm by the time I got it home. Never mind I'll put 1/2 in the fridge and eat it cold tomorrow, like a quality pizza, it's always better then. Life is good and never take it for granted. Back to my flight simulator and large Heineken.

why i asked the question,"what is the purpose of 90 day reporting" the tm.47 asks details of your passport and your

name and address, and you must notify immigration office.this is what i done on tues 2nd.and had a slip stapled into my passport to say i had.fri 5th i went to the car licencing dept.to RENEW my driving licence from the expired one[4thapril]

to a 5yr.one.passport,tax.id.card.last yrs.letter from immigration confiming my name/address and another thai.gov.document date jan.2013 but they would not except any of these as proof of my address only a letter from immigration that is suposed to be free oh yes free not so at korat its 500bht.but what proof have they, never been to my house of over 3yrs.they only go on my word.they would not only take the word of a profesional person [lawyer] who lives 50mts.from me and has known me for 3yrs.the thai gov.tax id card has all my details on it but no this is not good enough.

ans last just for the record i will not, repeat will not give any gov.office a brown envelope.

Aside from all the reasons given thus far, this 90 day reporting requirement serves as an income stream for the Immigration Dept. Depending on the office you report to, being over 7 days late to report your address can result in a 2K THB fine.

I've no doubt that the Immigration Department would cease to function without all those 2k baht fines coffee1.gif

I can see a purpose for it and this thread will not influence the requirement. But surly reporting to the local police station would make more sense, they are the people who come out and verify my location/situation after my annual Retirement Extension (using the map I have to provide to Immigration) so obviously the right hand is talking to the left.
