Guys, just heard the news about a friend/colleague of mine. Was driving home from work last weekend, swerved to avoid a cat/dog & ploughed into a tree at speed. Stuart is now paralysed from the neck down. Incredibly sad & a top bloke.

Sad. As an animal lover I probably would have done the same, it would have been an instinctive reaction.

When I was learning to drive a bus ( a family thing) one of the things they teach is that you are responsible for up to 52 passengers so do not swerve to avoid animals. My instructor aid some drivers find this one of the hardest things to do or overcome.

sorry to hear from your friend.

and if you do not avoid an animal on bike and if you hit it or go over it , there i a good chance that you kiss the ground anyway.

Sad story, patience to his family and friends and if he is a young guy, he might wake up one day. Hope and patience are all he needs.

Very sad to hear this, I hope he fully recover.

One of my HD buddies got attacked by a crazy dog while riding his big HD touring bike.

The crazy dog hit one of the front disks and he was doing about 80 km/h (breaking hard) but he didn't crash because the Harley is so heavy.

The disk was bend and he had to truck it home, dog dead too.

Yes better to hit the animal if it's not too big, but as others mention, you will react instinctively and try to avoid hitting it .

Yes, sad to hear, wish we could train away the instinct to avoid collision,

and instead speed a bit harder to bump away whatever gets in the way.

Hope he can recover and walk

Where did the accident happen? I saw a Farang laying still face down on the road, and everyone standing around him in Jomtien recently. There was nothing in the local press, I wondered what had happened to him

I am more the 'Run straight over them type of guy'. It's bad luck about your mate. Maybe in the future he will get treatment/drugs to give him mobility.
