I read on TV that there are some pet shops out near Sukhumvit on Thepprasit Road. As I've never tried to use any form of public transportation in that direction, can anyone advise me on how to get there? I'm on soi 13 near second road.

First get to Pattaya Tai and 2nd road near the school. There is a baht bus queue going to Jomtien. Take a bus there and get off at Thepprasit (right after Foodmart supermarket). Then from there there are SOMETIMES infrequent baht buses (sometimes even a queue) going east on Thepprasit towards Sukhumwit. Also 10 baht. Since you don't know exactly where these pet stores are, you could plan to take a VERY LONG walk instead. It's kind of fun once on a while.

I just read you said near Sukhumwit. In that case you probably don't want to walk that far, from Thappraya and Thepprasit. There should be baht buses on Thepprasit. Sometimes you have to wait a long time though.

If I wanted to get from Soi 13/2nd Road to Thepprasit/Sukumvit I would take a bahtbus up either Central or South Rd to Sukumvit, and from there another bahtbus along Sukumvit to Tesco. And from there I would walk down Thepprasit. It's no distance.

The bahtbuses between Tesco and Thappraya along Thepprasit are very irregular outside of evening hours/weekends.

Assuming that the pet shops are those behind the food stalls at the Thepprasit weekend market (not far from the Outlet Mall) this would be the best way to go. Motocy taxi would be able to take a shorter route but not everyone's cup of tea.

A baht bus on Sukhumwit is an option of course. However, going south the OP would have to cross Sukhumwit TWO TIMES and in my view that's a downside of that route.

Also, I don't agree that baht bus service on Thepprasit is THAT irregular. It's gotten a lot better with the arrival of the Russians.

If someone mention Pet shops on Thepprasit Road, they may have meant the weekend Market on Threppasit road.

There are several Pet stalls on the Market also.

I'm not much down jomtiem/ pattaya way nowadays except on odd trips to the beach but for what it's worth the last couple of times we've been to the beach, trying to catch a baht bus at the side of the road is nigh impossible, I just give up and instead opt for a motorcycle taxi,, many of the baht busses nowadays seem only interested in private hire
