Practically everyone gets power cuts, some occasionally and and some of us on a regular basis.

Most people, I would guess, are cooking with gas and have a gas bottle in the home.

So I was thinking about getting a gaslight to work off the cooking gas when power cuts happen at night. Would save all that scrambling about for candles and torches.

In Farang land gas lighting is popular with campers and caravaner's and the like but can't recall having seen any gas light here in LOS.

Anyone have any idea where one might get a gas lamp that would work off the cooking gas bottle?

There's a post or two in one of the power-shortage threads regarding lights the fit on the big bottles, have a look there.

Thanks Crossy for the pointer but unfortunately searching didn't bring up anything. sad.png

I asked around for the local gas shop and got a complete unit for 1800bt.

The fitting to the gas bottle is different than for cooking so can't interchange, but this way I can move the light which is probably more convenient.

Thanks again

I've had one of these for lots of years, handy, but not so good in a room as really heats up the air.

FYI, take that adapter off and can use the gas bottle with your cooking stove. Good for a spare if you've forgotten to order a replacement.

FYI, these lanterns can also be had with a long neck, mine is about one meter. an

The gas and light stove shops in the markets probably have these tucked away Get some spare mantels, too, and perhaps a spare globe.

Since I'm now living in a house without power - the electic company removed the meter while I was out of town - I'm reading in the evening with a battery-powered LED light that works pretty well, cost 90 baht. Doesn't throw off any noticeable heat.

As usual with cheap plastic stuff here, only available in various cartoonish formats - I selected a duck dressed as a clown, which I'm sure the kids will love when I don't need it anymore. . .

"Thanyaburi Mac" - Heat from the lamp should not be a problem as without the fans we always throw open all the doors and windows when there is a power cut.

Have not had chance yet but will check out the adapter so can use for cooking in emergency which was the origional point.

They had some of those long neck adapters at the shop but I had a Cheap Charlie moment and decided to save the extra 500bt and put the lantern on an upside down bucket or something if necessary. Anyway it's easier to store somewhere if it's not 6ft tall. w00t.gif

The unit came with a spare mantle and fancy lighter thing and now I know where the shop is can always pop along for spares.

"FunFon" - Sorry to hear about your absent meter, these things always seem happen when you're not around. whistling.gif

Wev'e got torches and candles all over the place and I've even played with the ides of connecting a 12v fluorescent light to the computer UPS, but the main idea with the gas light was to have a spare cylinder for when the cooking gas runs out which over the years ALWAYS happens while cooking the evening meal.

Your choice of a Duck LED light is commendable - you have good taste Sir. clap2.gif
