Report Russian Tourist's Lost Bag Rescued by Beach Duo in Phuket
Photo via Facebook/ เหยี่ยวข่าว ภูเก็ต Newshawk Phuket A Russian tourist's holiday misadventure at Mai Khao Beach in Phuket turned around after a Belgian-Spanish couple came to his rescue. The story unfolded yesterday, September 10, when the tourist, staying in Phuket’s Thalang district, reported a missing bag swept away by a wave. The man filed a complaint at Sakhu Police Station at 1.30pm, desperate to recover his belongings, including two passports, an iPhone 14 Pro Max, and cash. Despite searching with friends, the bag remained elusive, prompting police to solicit help from locals and tourists. By 7pm, hope was reignited when the kind-hearted couple arrived at the station with the missing bag. They had discovered it while strolling along the beach and promptly returned it, ensuring that all items were still intact. The Russian tourist was relieved to retrieve his belongings just in time for his scheduled departure from Thailand today. Grateful for the assistance, he praised both the Belgian-Spanish couple and local authorities. This heartening event joins a tradition of helpfulness among Phuket’s visitors. In July, two tourists from New Zealand found 1,500 Malaysian ringgit (around 11,000 Thai Baht) and turned it over to the Tourist Police. Social media played a role in reuniting the money with its Malaysian owner, further highlighting Phuket’s community spirit. Such acts of kindness continue to showcase the goodwill among international visitors and the helpfulness of those in the vibrant locale of Phuket. Adapted by ASEAN Now from The Thaiger 2025-09-11 -

Can you catch diseases from toilet seats?
Most microbiologists agree the risk of catching anything directly from a toilet seat is extremely low. The skin is a good barrier, and most germs don’t survive long on a dry surface like plastic or porcelain. Where people do pick things up is more often from touching surfaces (flush handles, door locks, taps) and then touching their mouth, eyes, or a small cut. That’s why handwashing after using the toilet is far more important than balancing on the seat or covering it in paper. The exceptions are if there’s visible fresh fluid, or if someone has an open wound in contact with the surface — but for the average healthy person, the toilet seat itself isn’t the main risk. Good hand hygiene really is the key.
