I have spent the past week performing a hosting move for my business in the UK. Utilising my existing hosting's name server I was able to switch each site independently to give me time to ensure they were working correctly. So, over the course of the week I have switched these site's name servers back to my private name servers (now on my new hosting platform). Each time I have done this I have monitored the change with Axence NetTools.

Early in the week everything was routed via Hong Kong. This is the same route I have observed for the past year or so. This morning I have been performing the last moves and I have noticed that the route is now

post-68756-0-24947300-1366501643_thumb.j

and the ping rate has dropped from 400-500 to 200-300. Is this just 3BB exploiting this routing or is it everybody?

By the way, I'm NOT complaining!

Thank you. That explains the jumps in latency within the 6 hops in the 3BB network. I did wonder if they might be hiding their routing. Hop number 3 within 3BB adds another 100ms and that just looked weird to me. Then we have another jump at hop number 6 within 3BB adding another 160ms. Both these look like international jumps. 100ms to SIN then another 160ms to Europe (possibly Holland?). How does fit into your knowledge. The rest would sit perfectly.

Otherwise we have to picture 3000km of cable pooling around and around inside Jasmine Tower on Chaeng Wattana?

Wish i understood the importance of all that, way over my head, but hope it all works out for you.

Funny how you think you know a liitle about some things, understand more about others etc,a little, but then you see a thread like this and it becomes obvious......you know nothing grasshopper !

This is what the route to that ASN is like with CAT;

Thai - Singapore - Japan - UK (Via USA I guess or direct connection via fiber?) this is a stupid way to route.

Proper one is via Singapore - Seabone connection but it is overloaded nowadays due to problem in undersea fiber cable repairs.
