Gambling In Thailand

Recommended Posts

When will the Thai authorities realise that they can't stop their citizens (and expats) from gambling?

They can't control the internet...or the thousands of bars around the country where it goes on.

Where's the logic behind it?

You can't beat a Saturday afternoon in the pub next door to a bookies.

If gambling was legalised, the protection income would be much reduced. For that reason, probably nothing will change any time soon.

In addition to gambling in homes and shops, there are some big illegal casinos under the paid protection of certain authorities. I know of one that is a mecca for mia farang who like to show off how much money they can lose. These ladies wreak havoc at home by hocking house, land and vehicles and stealing to pay off their debts behind the backs of their husbands. Legalised gambling would probably make the problem worse.
