I seemed to have lost my Thai motorcycle license. I still have my car license, but the motorcycle license??? Gone! I probably put it somewhere 'special' so I wouldn't forget where I put it, and now I don't know where it is. Getting old is so fun ;)

It is a five year license, but it was issued in Nakhon Ratchasima Does anyone know what I need to do in order to obtain a new license, especially considering the license was issued in Nakhon Ratchasima but I now live in Chiang Mai.

Wish I would have photocopied it. But I didn't.

Soooo, where do I need to go and what hoops do I need to jump through. I seldom get pulled over because I wear a helmet all the time, but it does happen.

Thanks in advance!

I lost both of my licences although they were Chiang Mai licences. I went to the licencing bureau with my UK licence (although I'm not sure they needed this), certificate of residency (in my case a yellow book), and passport . Effectively I had to reapply for the licence including taking the 'reaction test'. I had a Thai speaker with me who explained that they were lost but it seemed that this was the procedure). It didn't seem any difference than my first application but my UK licence is valid for both car and motorbike. I paid for and received complete new 5-year licences.

I still have my original license from the US with a motorcycle endorsement, and I still have my Thai car license. Seems like they should be able to pull my information out of their database --- butttttt This is Thailand. My yellow book is from Lamphun so guess that's where I'm headed. I sure the wife knows. Until then, I guess driving without a license is a 100 baht fine. I guess I just keep 100 baht and tea money on me.

My Wife had lost her licence for years and never replaced it.

When I was getting my 5 year licence (in Bkk) she inquired about replacing her licence.

The DLT had her details on record (after giving them her Thai ID number). My Wife had a new licence within 15 mins.

Pop down to your nearest DLT, it could just be that simple...

One thing that always amazes me in Thailand. Things which we expect to be simple are often convoluted beyond logic, things which we expect to be difficult and expect numerous brick walls can often be simple !

Go to your Amper police station and tell them you lost your license. If, like me, you have both a motorcycle and a car/truck license, give them the one you still have. They'll fill out a form for you that will keep you from being ticketed. Take that form to you provincial DMV (mine is in Lamphun), your yellow house book (or enjoy your trip to immigration to get a 'residency verification form which is why I have a yellow book), photocopies of your lost license if you have them, and your passport (I copied that whole darn thing and let them pick the pages they wanted. I left the wife do the talking and we were in and out in 15 minutes minus about 250 baht in fees. The new motorcycle license is dated the same as my car/truck (both 5 year permits). Lesson learned. Photocopy your drivers licenses and keep copies around. If you lose yours, it makes it a lot easier.

For a five year licence for car the expiry date is your birthday. Could explain the same expiry dates. But good idea to do a scan/copy of both.

Cheers
