T A T To Open Language Schools In A Bid To Shore Up Thailand's Lack Of Skilled Tour Guides

Featured Replies

I thought the news implied language schols for a THIRD language such as Chinese. Didn't think it was referring to English at all.

Yes Rubi!! Isn't it the requirement of the school curriculum to teach Thai children to speak English? They declined the chance to make English a second language even though many signs are dual lingual.

The OP is not referring to English, it is referring to 3rd languages. English is considered the 2nd language and most Thais students are required to take English in school. English language proficiency is a whole different issue, however.

The difficulty is that this is really a niche market and one that is going to be very costly. Other than people who have been raised with a language, the process of learning a new language takes many years, especially to reach a level of proficiency that is needed to be a tour guide.

There are a lot of languages to learn if this program is going to be successful.
