Hi, was just wondering if anyone knew of a good acupuncture clinic? My gf went to the one that is located in the temple/clinic at Saphan Taksin (it is convenient, as I do live around the corner), and she did like it, but it is quite expensive. I'm not sure if acupuncture is something Thais actually do often, or if this place was just randomly more expensive that others, but I am looking for options.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

St Louis Hospital, Sathorn Road not too far from Saphan Taksin. They have a Chinese clinic. I had a course of acupuncture there a few years ago. From memory the charge was about 850 baht for the first session wnich included the consultation with a Chinese (i.e. qualified from China) doctor. Followed by 8 - 12 sessions at about 650 baht a visit. Very professional and worth the money in my case.

Thank you, I'll look into that. That's still a bit pricey though. I guess I just assumed that there would be a lot of Chinese clinics that did it for 400 baht or so.

Cheers for the reply.

^^^^^, many of these clinics are charging about 1,000 baht per hour, some will sell you discount cards if booking up for say at least 10 hours worth.

I have had acupuncture, found it to be a complete waste of time and money, offered no more than temporary relief.

You didnt say what your problem was, mine was lower back pain.

I think charging 1000 baht per hour/session in Thailand is simply ridiculous. How would the avg Thai afford to undertake a series of sessions? I've had a look on google and have found some promising leads. I would guess that something affordable can be found in Chinatown. I'm thinking of a small acupuncture clinic as opposed to a large hospital.

I've had it done many times before (with the added electrical bonus) and found it quite useful.

Oh, it wasn't for me, but I have undertaken it for back pains.

Cheers.

These places arent catering to your average Thai.

Think, Koreans, Japanese, Hong Kong, Singapore, Chinese etc.

I have been in these shophouses, there are about 20 patients at a time, session lasting for at least one hour, many staff.

This isnt in farang rip off areas, think Lat Prao or Ramkhamheng.

I cant remember the clinical term, they put suction cups on you and draw blood.

Book early to avoid dissapointment, many swear by it, I dont, more a case of mind over matter.

Try Hua chiew hospital.About 500 per session. They have many doctors. Note that they close for lunch 12-1. They are open on weekends. Although depending where you live in BKK, it might be cheaper to go to st. louis hospital because you'll need a taxi to and from national stadium or from the train station to get to Hua chiew. Mission hospital has a clinic but they charge 1000 baht per session.
