Is There A Blockbusters Or Equivalent In Pattaya?

In Bangkok I could rent the latest international and Thai movies , usually around 3 months after they were shown at Bangkok cinemas.

Is there any place in Pattaya that provides a similar service?

Now I have my step-son living with me, it is quite difficult to get out to the cinema at night.

I have done a search . Nothing.

Thanks guys.

Why would ANYONE with an ounce of sense want to set up a video 'rental' chain in a country that allows rampant piracy of DVDs where current movies are openly on sale at 100 bt each, all along the beach, and at every bar every 5 minutes from a different crew of thai pikies!

Just go to TUKCOM on Pattaya Tai, 4th floor, luv it :o

At least you can return dodgy copies and swap them for yet more dodgy copies.

Well blockbuster have, in Bangkok, and there are many others besides.

I have also seen dvd rental stores here, but not sure how comprehensive their offerings are.

Yes, I have bought dodgy dvd's. They are usually more hassle than they are worth - and the quality is often pretty awful.

Blockbusters provides a reasonable quality dvd of all movies released in Thailand, and at a very reasonable rental rates - like around 30 - 40 baht for a 3 day rental. No hassle - and legal. :D

I have no desire to see most movies more than once, so why pay even 100 baht? Rental is fine by me. :D

Horses for courses I guess. :D

Most of the movies they sell around the bars are of dubious quality

or are "wide screen editions". Who has a wide screen TV here I ask ?

Naka.

Granted there are plenty of places selling dodgy copies of movies on DVD but if your anything like me one of my biggest pet hates is to put a movie on and find the quality <deleted>.I'd rather pay more and watch a good quality movie.

True enough :o

I'm in the same boat and would be happier renting for a day or 2 at 30 baht a night but haven't seen any 'major' stand alone video rental shops in the centre of town.

Dunno most of the knockoffs I have bought are rather good quality, most are screeners or master copies. I've had a few dodgey, but the vast majority are as good as store bought.

?

many people can watch a DVD at the same time :o

and you don't have to freeze your tits off

or sit next to 'Mr Mad'

or the kids from hel_l

or the dicks who refuse to switch of their mobile phones

or stand up for 2 minutes before the movie starts and watch pictures of 'rain'.

Tsutaya have stores at Carefour and also on Soi Nern Plub Wan near the market.

They also have an outlet in Tukcom (across from the Hot Pot restaurant). Never tried renting any though.

Thanks everyone.

Signed up for 190 Baht at Tesco North Pattaya today. DVD selection is rather thin, but loads of vcd's at 30 baht for a week's rental. It'll keep the boy amused while I'm typing all this rubbish. :o

With movies in theaters starting at only 70 baht, I would LOVE to see lots of movies, but I can't find any movie schedules on the internet for local Pattaya theatres... that means having to call them, wait, and wait more, which i don't have the patience for. Does anyone know if I can get movie schedules on the internet, or even in a local paper?

Keep in mind a first run movie in a nice theater in Los Angeles is $12... and one theater I know has prices going up to $17. Yes, it's true.
