Depends on the airline. Strictly speaking, no you cannot, but I have carried on a golf club with AirAsia before on domestic routes. If you check it in as baggage with AA you may be charged around 500 Baht as it may be classed as sports equipment. Check with the airline before flying.

I've hand carried a #3 golf driver onboard Thai airways international. The agent tagged it and noted it in her log book i.e. name, flight# etc.

why don't you call the airlines up and ask them.

whistling.gif I really don't know the answer to that question.

My guess is it's up to the airlines.

But why would you not simply check it in as checked baggage to avoid the hassle (if any).

What would you expect to be doing with a Golf umbrella on board an airplane anyhow?

Some planes you can take am umbrella on in addition to acarry-on bag but i think it would be reasonable if it was a smaller or folding umbrella. I just bought a golf size umbrella on a plane today but put it though checked in luggage to avoid problems .
