Can anyone send me links to farang buying bike or car in Thailand.

If not can anyone give me some tips of purchasing.

What do I need, how do I do etc.

Thank you

I think you need to be more specific. What tips are you looking for? What make to buy? Whether to buy car or bike? What's a good price for a specific model? Where to buy a new/used car/bike?

You're post is too generic. Plus, where do you live? How much money do you have? etc.

This would help a bunch!

And, this is better off in the motoring forum. Topic moved.

All that's needed is a decision on what you want, ID, proof of address and money ;)

The rules are the same for farang as they are Thai's.

My tips are:

Research the cars of interest yourself, do not rely on information from sales staff because it is garbled by the language barrier and marketing spin. The car company Thai web sites are not great but most have specs and prices somewhere.

Test drives and discounts are hard to come by and take time. Go to a few dealers and negotiate the best deal you can. I found BKK dealers to be sharper than up country and some say cars with BKK plates are easier to resell than up country plates as well but who knows, TIT.

If you are buying a popular model, quoted delivery time may be long and actual delivery time even longer. Don't be shy to pester the dealer for delivery updates, (especially Toyota). Patient customers seem to go to the back of the que.

Good luck

And please disregard the many stories about having to buy in a Thai name. If you are working here and have a work permit you can even get HP from some companies, not all. Bought my second car in Bangkok, payments over two years back in early 2000 somethng. Wanted to pay over one year but the company insisted on two ( more interest for them ).

I heard that Kawasaki in Patts would do the same if you have work permit etc, but that's second hand info.

If you have the cash then it's easy.

Ok from the start,

I work away for 6 weeks and travel back to Thailand for 2 weeks of RnR. Spend time with my Thai girlfriend. Living out of my aunts condo, hotels and village life.

Specific's

Can I purchase a vehicle in my name without a work visa or a residential address, or can I purchase the vehicle in both my Thai girlfriends name and my self.

Looking to buy an Isuzu D Max / Toyota hilux, 4 door, Manuel, LPG/petrol, black, 2nd hand. 2002 model up.

What price should be sufficient and any recommendation where to try around Bangkok, Rayong, Chaiyaphum.

You can buy in your name, but you will need a letter from your embassy or from immigration stating your Thai address. It's not possible to have a vehicle registered in two names.

In 2002 the D-Max hadn't been released yet (that came in 2003), and the Hilux was still the previous generation Tiger (VIGO came in 2004).

The Isuzu pickups have never been sold in Thailand with gasoline engines. The Tiger generation wasn't sold with gasoline engines at all - Hilux was first offered with a 2.7L gasoline engine in 2005 for memory (not at launch), and sold in very low numbers in 4-door guise, so will be hard to find.

Given the mileage something of this vintage would have, wouldn't you want to go diesel anyway? You wouldn't want something that's run 160,000KM+ on an LPG conversion would you?

Thanks for that IMHO. Just looking around for something I can use over the next few years, then sell when I no longer spend as much time over their.

What will my Thai partner need if I put in in her name. And do you know how much rego and insurance would be for such a vehicle. And what do they mean by tax.

For a 4-door, manual, standard height, diesel Isuzu/Toyota pickup 10 years old, and in decent condition, you're going to be looking at around 350-400K Baht. Unless you're prepared to give away that kind of money as a gift, I would suggest buying it in your own name.

Yearly road tax (rego) will run around 5-6K Baht, and at that age it's not possible to get 1st class insurance (comprehensive cover) - so you'd be looking at another 8.5K Baht per year for 2nd class insurance (Fire & Theft) + Por Ror Bor (compulsory 3rd party).

You need a residents certificate from immigration to register the car in your name. You need to have a house or condo rental agreement to get the residents certificate. You cannot put 2 names on the cars blue registration book. You can register it in her name easily, but do you trust her enough?

I am in the same boat, looking to buy a mates truck who is leaving Thailand.

Does the residents certificate need to come from my embassy or the Thai immigration? What is needed from him to sell me the truck and what do we need to do transfer all the legal documents from his name to mine?
