Looking for a Samsung or perhaps a Nokia smartphone, do not need a flashy one, but it must have this 3 fetures:

1. dual sim(both connected at the same time)

2. thai-english dictionary

3. 5 mp camera

Best option?

One more thing about the dual sim. I must be able to use one simcard from europe, the other simcard will be thai. And need to be able to receive calls and messages from both simcards at the same time.

I had the chance to play with my daughters Galaxy Grand while on leave and was impressed by the dual SIM feature not having had a dual SIM phone for many years.

Either or both SIMS can be active at any time just by changing the phone settings (no reboot). You designate the master SIM for outgoing calls.

I see no reason it should not do all you want.

I've been reading that newest Nokia is A really good phone.Check it out.

Would you happen to have the name/model number of that "newest" Nokia?

I have an I-mobile IQ6. I think it is a great phone for about ฿3,000 less than the grand. I haven't tried out the dual sim features yet, so can't comment on them.

For the money the specs are great, it has a 12mb camera an hd screen and dragon tail glass ( the same as gorrilla).

Note that Nokia phones are windows mmobile devices and you may not have the same options when it comes to Thai - English dictionary apps

Looks like they've announced a budget version (4.3").

I read the link about the budget version of Galaxy Grand, named Galaxy Core: It looks great. But it said "For the dual-SIM, Samsung says that the phone will soon get an update that would allow users access both SIM cards simultaneously"

Does Galaxy Grand give acess to use both simcards simultaneously?

As stated above from the settings menu it certainly appears that both sim cards can be used at the same time, but I did not specifically try the feature.

I am using the i-mobile IQ1

Like other similar Android phones, it has a dual sim with both sim cards active simultaneously (they can be easily activated or de-activated as required)

As long as the European sim card can operate on a Thai network, then you can use it together with a Thai sim in one of these dual sim phones.

Price around 6,000 baht.

8mp camera from memory

Most of the i-mobile IQ range of phones will do what you require, and they are far cheaper than the Samsung models. (if cost is a consideration)

Are there any dictionarys for offline use in the Samsung phones? I asked in the Samsung shop, they said the dictionarys are all for online use?? Sounds strange to me. The dictionary i have downloaded to my old Nokia phone works perfect for me, and not having to be connected to internet.

The I-mobiles might just be an option, are there any with "dual sim active" to be able to the 2 simcards at the same time, or are they all "dual standby"?

They are all dual active, in the IQ and I-Style ranges at least. Haven't seen any recent model dual sim Android phones which are not dual active. Dual standby seems to be a thing of the past, all though if anyone wants to correct that assumption they are welcome to.

The dictionary I recomended at the start of this topic works off line Including the text to speach if needed.

On registration the dictionary is downloaded to the phone and after that no further connection is required

I went to Fortune IT center and IT-city today asked around in 5-6 shops about this, they all said that I-mobiles do not have dual active, only dual standby, even the latest models. This means that when you are on standby, you can receive calls to either simcard, but once you use one of the simcard, the other is inactivated. Now, its not that you can trust the information you get in those shops to 100%, i certainly got misinformed before. But, they all said the same. The information on the I-mobile website is not of to much help, as they simply state that the phones are dual sim. Anyone knows where to find the proper information in this matter?

Well I'm holding my IQ1 in front of me, and both sims are currently turned on and active.

And if you are talking with someone on sim 1, and somebody calls you on sim2, what happens?

Posted

I can choose to disconnect the call from sim 1 and answer sim 2. (or vice versa)

I have a feeling you don't really understand how active dual sim works.

Active Dual SIM phones [edit]

Mobile phones with built-in simultaneous dual SIM capability allow both SIMs to be active simultaneously and allow calls to be received on either number at any given time. Most such phones have two transceivers built in one of which may support 2G and 3G while another may only support 2G.
