HeavyDrinker Posted May 12, 2013 Share Posted May 12, 2013 (edited) This last week we've been 'dogsitting' the neighbour's dog - Boo Boo. He's been smashing fun to be honest and has now turned the wife's attitude towards dogs right around and she's now quite willing to get a dog. She wouldn't leave him alone and she fussed over Boo Boo like a baby. The snag is that she also wants her niece and nephew to come and stay while they do their 6th form stuff at some school or other and she won't have both. They will chase anything, even when well behaved, because that's what they do. You would have to get the dog from one of the few breeders in Thailand and that means the dogs are going to be subject to the risk of inbreeding. They run the risk of a lot of genetic issues and the climate isn't the best for their skin or coat. They are wonderful dogs and this isn't a swipe against them. Saan Posted May 13, 2013 Share Posted May 13, 2013 Unless you really are a dog lover and are prepared to do the right thing by the dog, which includes exercising, don't get one. Remember you can't just pack up for a few days holiday because you have to do something with the dog. If you must get one an Irish setter is not a good choice. They are a beautiful looking dog but have no brains. They can get lost in their own back yard. Breeders narrowed their skull for cosmetic reasons and bred the brain capacity out of them. Another thing to consider is ticks. A long haired dog makes finding ticks like searching for a needle in a haystack. Another issue is that pure bred dogs are more inclined to have health problems than cross breds. It goes on.
