Another topic two in one day!

Ok so I have tried all the Internet companies and we cannot get Adsl to where we live :'-(

Can I get the equivalent to sky tv and get Internet through a satellite dish?

Thanks

Well I'm snookered then. No 3G in miles. I feel like crying I'm so used to the Internet. I keep trying to look on my iPhone. It's sad I know.

As the wife says what can do!

If your phone works then you should be able to get a GPRS/EDGE connection through AIS or DTAC.

Its slow and can be woefully so but it's better than nothing.

I get edge which drops more times than its on. This is why I was thinking of satellite.

Thailand is so far behind the rest of the world :-(

A friend has a TOT satelite set up and seems quite happy with it.

Says it is faster than and AIS dongle.

How do you know there is no 3g around you. Have you had the companies come out and check?

Your friend is the ONLY person in Thailand that is happy with TOT CrapStar

Well lucky him. I used it when visiting and it was fine for surfing the web. Downloading movies etc he just did overnight so no problem there either. If the OP has no 3G then a dish is the only alternative and TOT seems the best out there unless you can recomend another provider.

How do I know their is no 3G where I live? That's because nobody can get 3G telephone signal with any provider within 2 miles of here!

That IS the answer to that.

We have CRAP edge that drops all the time. Read the post.

Sutton,

Do you have a CAT tower nearby ? It could be that with an external antenna you could pick up the CAT signal (as I do), my 'local' tower is 13km away. AFAIK the true 3g signal can also be picked up from the same tower as CAT use.

Totster has a good point, but the technical aspects are not really for the layman.

A good start is to find out where your nearest towers are?

Try TOT3G for example.. http://icoverage.tot3g.net/

Try in the nearest town also, by asking who has 3G signal there and on what network.

Also look at the providers roll out plans of 3G 2100 MHz, AIS reckon they will cover almost all of Thailand by next year.

TRUE is surprising good at the moment up country because they rolled out thier network based on the gaps left by DTAC and AIS, but not all handsets will pick-up their 850 MHz 3G signal

I have used IPStar for six years in a village 60kms from Roi Et and never had any problems with weather, only time signal dropped was when trees grew in front of the line of sight when we were away for six months. Much faster than an air card. I would not consider living out in the sticks without it

Before you complain to much, go to your next TRUE MOVE shop-dealer and ask them with your Amphoe name and Village name,

or call TRUE MOVE 3G-H in Bangkok.

I was not aware, that I had a very good signal in the middle of now where in Chayaphum and Udon Thani province to.

6,5 MB Download, 3,5 MB Upload on both places.

A friend of mine had the biggest problems to even find a workiing Mobile signal in his place in Sakhon Nakhon Pampas not far from me, 60 km.

I tested my Laptop and Modem with True Move Aircard and he, to his own surprise, has also a Signal, also a bit weaker, there, 1.3 MB Downlaod and 0,7 MB Upload.

but many times better than until recently!

Another guy has similar Downloads with AIS Sticker-Modem at his house, but very small Upload, at least at the time we tested it.

So, ask and try.
