Today my wife bought a old but in excellent condition rotary phone at the Minburi market. I plugged it in and it works fine for incoming calls. The problem is because it's a rotary we can not call out. Is their anyway to convert the rotary to make calls?

Doubtful I would think because old rotary dial phones used decadic pulse dialing which no phone exchanges would support anymore.

A possible solution would be a DTMF tone generator which you can hold to the mouthpiece and dial the number you want. No idea where you would buy one of those these days though.

EDIT: A quick google shows up some DTMF generator apps so if you have a smartphone you could try that.

That seems like it would make a great decoration piece. Nice buy!!

Yes, that's mainly why we bought them. Of course we were hoping they would work too! Well anyway for now we can get incoming calls. Thanks for the other replies.
