allalong Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Just to say congratulations to my local team in England who won the play off final yesterday to win promotion to the 2nd tier of English football , the Championship. Remarkable achievement for a town of 40K getting gates of 4k, only entered the football league 10 years ago
alfieconn Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 There is a small teams thread somewhere mate funny enough Chelsea and City use to be on it 1
allalong Posted May 20, 2013 Author Posted May 20, 2013 There is a small teams thread somewhere mate funny enough Chelsea and City use to be on it Really? Not interested in so called "big" teams, full of people/players with Big egos, Big salaries, Big entrance prices and ultimately a "Big" let down, Smaller clubs with "big "hearts and ambitions and achieving something very "big"
uptheos Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Yes, congratulations, they have done well since entering the FL after 108 years in 2003. . 1

I don't like all this man love to win promotion to the 2nd tier of English football , the Championship. Remarkable achievement for a town of 40K getting gates of 4k, only entered the football Sounds to me like your having a dig at the Orient
uptheos Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Yes, congratulations, they have done well since entering the FL after 108 years in 2003. . Thanks, Well managed club on and off the field. Good FA Cup giant killers too. I remember Alec Stock coming to the O's from Yeovil when I was a kid. He was an excellent manager too one of the best the O's have had. Do they still play on a sloping pitch?
somtampet Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 A brilliant acheivment, love the underdog to do well, lets hope they do a Wimbledon
allalong Posted May 20, 2013 Author Posted May 20, 2013 Orient? Isnt that a synonym for the far east. . Alec Stock was a true footballing great,He made Yeovil famous in their non league days and of course was one of the "player managers" which were common, he was successful at Fulham as well (FAcup final 1975), Proud to say I met him many years ago. watching a local league game, standing there alone and he was a true gentleman. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alec_Stock No sloping pitch moved from there 20 years ago 2
Chicog Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I wonder how many faxes the Football league will get demanding several trucks of hardcore and a spirit level head for Yeovil in the summer?
allalong Posted May 20, 2013 Author Posted May 20, 2013 "I wonder how many faxes the Football league will get demanding several trucks of hardcore and a spirit level head for Yeovil in the summer?" Shows how informed you are. Moved from Huish and the sloping pitch 20 years ago 1

cardholder Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 A brilliant acheivment, love the underdog to do well, lets hope they do a Wimbledon You mean change ownership, abandon the fans, move ground and rename yourself MK Taunton-vil's
cardholder Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I will always remember Yeovil beating my team. Forest, in the League One play-offs 2006/7. Having stuffed Yeovil away 2-0 it was something of a shock to get a 2-5 drubbing at City Ground. I always liked Russell Slade as a manager.
mrtoad Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Delighted for them, will probably get to see a game there next season as got family living just down the road. Tremendous achievement given the resources, but they also have a very good manager.
beano2274 Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 My local team as well, even had a trial at the old Huish park but duffed it up. A lot my old school mates from Westfield went to the game, their posts on FB show they enjoyed it. Might be hard to keep hold of Paddy though
uptheos Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Alec Stock Giant-killer with Yeovil Town who brought success to Leyton Orient. http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/2001/apr/18/guardianobituaries.football

Exsexyman Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Apparently Paul Whitehouse based his Fast Show football manager character on Alec Stock. 1
allalong Posted May 21, 2013 Author Posted May 21, 2013 Great Video, Alec and the Boys in 1949, http://www.britishpathe.com/video/cup-fever-grips-yeovil

Mark Shail. Do you remember him? He joined Plymouth next and then went on to captain Bristol City.
