JLCrab
Although I did not know it until I read it on YouTube here, Ray Manzarek pre-Doors provided that wonderful organ introduction to the Mamas & Papas 'No Salt On Her Tail' -- always one of my favorites. canuckamuck
The keyboards made The Doors for me, as much as Morrison's voice. Rest in piece Ray

Ulysses G.
I was never a big Doors fan, but the soundtrack for Apocalypse Now would have suffered a lot without them. RIP.
jellydog
Great, timeless band whose music sounds as stirring now as it did then. I've never heard another band since that had that sound, and God knows if it was possible, hundreds of bands would have done it.
webfact
It was Manzarek's interpretation of Bach — with that right hand — that launched The Doors' first hit, "Light My Fire," in 1967 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=CvVCCMG-JoQ http://www.npr.org/blogs/therecord/2013/05/21/185619707/the-doors-keyboard-counterpoint-goes-silent-remembering-ray-manzarek RIP

katana
Apparently Manzarek and Krieger were classically trained. Probably explains in part where some of their great music came from. RIP

folium
"Those are the greatest f_____g song lyrics I have ever heard. Let's form a rock n roll band and make a million dollars". Jim then sings the opening lines of.... http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=OCaDjpwuh08&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DOCaDjpwuh08 Truly brilliant, and one of my life long regrets is that I never saw them play live. Manzarek, the film director that never was; Morrison the son of a USN Admiral who commanded naval forces in the Gulf of Tonkin Incident. 2 geniuses, sorely missed. RIP.
