Hi Can anyone advise me if there is any law which sets out minimum requirements for employers with regard to employees who are unable to work due to ill health.

I am a teacher in a small, private, upcountry bilingual school, essentially a private business. I am currently hospitalised but expect to be released imminently and discharged and will return to work. So this matter may not be problematic but just in case it is......

I'd just like to know what Thai law says about sick pay and if possible I would welcome a reference to the appropriate legislation, if any. Many thanks.

Thanks Stef I am not actually looking for money; I just want to know if sick employees have statutory rights in respect of how long their employers are obliged to pay them if they are sick. My employers are saying 30 days is the maximum under Thai law and I just want to know if that is correct in the event my absence exceeds 30 days which it might.

If memory serves..30 days is correct...dont have the pertinent piece of the law to hand..but sounds about right

Don't know if OP noticed already but the two main bits of legislation that apply are available at the URL given already under 'Social Security Law'.

Don't have the Thai Labour Law book (translated in English) here to copy the section but from memory you are entitled to 30 days maximum a year sick leave, there is no stipulation on years of service that I recall.

Section 32 and Section 57 are the relevant parts, these match what I remember from the book I have from the Labour Office at home.

Thank you all for the help and references.....really appreciated. Looks like it is 30 days which is good to know. Also looks like it is not going to be an issue as I am going to be discharged from hospital in the next few days.
