Budget Bill sails through first reading
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Parliament yesterday passed the 2014 Budget Bill after 30 hours of debate in its first reading with a 292-155 vote, pending further scrutiny in the second reading in another 30 days.

A scrutiny committee of 63 MPs was set up yesterday, which will convene its first meeting on Monday. The 63 MPs come from various parties, with many unusually from small parties under the Pheu Thai-led coalition's quota.

Democrat MP Boonyod Sukthinthai objected to this but he was overruled by Deputy House Speaker Wisut Chainarun, who presided over the session.

The Democrats also attempted to extend the 30-day scrutiny period by another 15 days, but were defeated in a 284-79 vote.

Finance Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong made a closing statement on behalf of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, who is currently on an overseas trip.

He said the bill was meant to honour the government's pledge to Parliament when it first took office, on improving the quality of life of the people, promoting fairness and good governance and securing sustainable development.

And as the bill sails through parliament Her Excellency sails through The Maldives. smile.png

He said the bill was meant to honour the government's pledge to Parliament when it first took office, on improving the quality of life of the people, promoting fairness and good governance and securing sustainable development.

What he meant to say was the bill was designed to enrich the members and supporter of the Thaksin government, promote the PTP and borrow more money for the trough through debt.

Was that the original or the amended version with "typo" corrections?

How many years have they been there now? How many have had their lives improved since the Shinawatra Administration came to power. More to the point, hands up how many have suffered since the Shinawtra Government has been in Power.bah.gif

Any details available on the budget proposal?

probably the original seeing they had the numbers, the typo version was only a back up.

I almost have a sense of admiration. In the past, government " leaders" were content to simply loot whatever amount of money was already in the treasury.

Yingluck's government has the brilliant idea to borrow money to really fill up the the trough !!! Too bad about the future generations of Thai people will be paying for this debt, after the looters are long gone... :-(

"Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong stated that the Government had adjusted the countrys economic balance by reducing its dependence on exports and placing greater emphasis on domestic consumption. The adjustment was meant to sustain economic growth, since Thailands major export markets have faced economic problems.

Minister to the Prime Ministers Office Varathep Ratanakorn stressed that the Government intended to spend the national budget with great efficiency and transparency in accordance with related laws. Apart from the 2.525-trillion-baht national budget, the Government would also have another two trillion baht in loan for infrastructure development."

Well, I have to check with our local experts but I assume the GDP will show sufficient growth.

Another stunning success for Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong and the PTP led government. The countries economy is based on domestic consumption and yet they allow these issues to continue.............

"Cambodia shipped 118,504 tonnes of rice from January to April, up 130 per cent from last year; Thailand remains a large importer. Why is Thailand importing such large quantities of Cambodian rice when it has an excess stock on hand? " http://www.nationmultimedia.com/opinion/Priced-out-of-the-rice-market-30205413.html

While Minister to the Prime Ministers Office Varathep Ratanakorn, explains that domestic consumption will be funded by debt, therefore the future Thai GDP will be funded through financial stimulation through debt.
