Pheu Thai supporters to rally across the country
The Nation on Sunday

BANGKOK: -- The Pheu Thai Party announced yesterday that supporters would start a nationwide campaign at the end of the month to set up a pro-government movement, insisting that the PM will not dissolve House after the 2014 fiscal budget is passed.

Pheu Thai deputy spokesman Anusorn Iamsa-ard said with anti-government groups working hard to bring down the government, a group of supporters would get together to speak at 100 rally stages across the country.

He dismissed reports that the PM would dissolve House. "We have two years left to run the country. There is no use dissolving the House. We have pushed for many agendas and we would lose many opportunities if we dissolved the House.

"Even if a new election is called, Pheu Thai still wins and the Democrats still lose, so it is not necessary,'' he said.

Democrat party list MP Ongart Klampaiboon said there was no need for the government to reveal names of its supporters including businessmen whom it claims want to protect an elected regime to counter moves by anti-government groups.

"The government does not need to be paranoid about moves by anti-government groups wanting to topple it since it has majority votes in Parliament and has control over state funds," he said.

"If the government is going to collapse, it is because of its own action or its entourages' action and actions of people who are above the government that bring about negative consequences to the government. It could also collapse because of the massive scale of corruption," he said.

Meanwhile, Sangsit Piriya-rangsan, Rangsit University dean, called on Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung not to create deeper public divisions over his comments especially against the white mask group.

He said the anti-government white-mask group were educated and stage their move against graft because they believed the government had conflicts of interest and sought vested interest through the implementing of state projects.

Green Politics coordinator Suriyasai Katasila said he believed in the potential of the white mask group, saying they would be more powerful than other political groups which have staged campaigns. He dismissed claims that the white-mask group was just a fad, as he believed that social media would help more "silent" people to join the anti-government movement.

"The government is reeling under the fact that the white mask group is growing fast and if this continues, it is hard for the government to survive," he said.

Meanwhile, Dusit Poll released a survey which showed that less than half believe the government is stable.

Of 1,336 respondents, 35 per cent said the government did not enjoy stability because more anti-government groups are actively at work and the government has been heavily criticised for its failing administration.

About 33 per cent believed the government was still in control of developments.

Among topics that have shaken the government's stability, charter amendment has topped the list with 81 per cent, followed by the controversial Bt2-trillion loan bill (80 per cent), amnesty bills (74 per cent), price rises (67 per cent) and the rice pledging scheme (59 per cent).

No doubt the PM is in support with the idea they can rally, protest etc as long as they don't break the law but at which point will the likely fiery rhetoric be deemed " defamation " according to the government's own standard ?.

Sorry, that's a different story entirely.

"Lose many opportunities" to plunder the coffers, more like it;) And why do the reds need to rally? What are they scared of? Rallying from both sides just brings confrontation. I thought Thais avoid confrontation at all costs or am I missing something? Keep it up Reds, we are overdue for another coup.

These PTP supporters should adopt a march for their rallies to stop looking like a rabble. The organisation and discipline of a marching unit is truly a sight to behold. I find that a straight legged march looks particularly crisp.

Perhaps set up a Ministry of Silly Walks - Jatuporn still needs a job.

They may march to their hearts content , provided they can behave themselves in a fit proper manner, one doubts that the PTP will attract much attention outside of Thailand , I get the impression Thailand is on the nose and Burma is the darling of the monthcoffee1.gif

Shouldn't it read

Sums it up really doesn't it! Whinge, whine, protest, put on ridiculous masks, but you still can't win an election.

Keyword is Agenda's.

You are all welcome to rally down here in Phuket, I am sure the locals will be very impressed by your red propaganda.

I know the South pretty well, having lived in various places for over a decade. Phuket is the only place in the South where I have seen Red Shirts in red shirts doing Red Shirt stuff. But then, the Dems only won 70% of the vote there, their lowest margin outside the Deep South (edit - in the South).

I remember a group of about 40 Red Shirts at a Democrat rally in Saphan Hin protesting about Abhisit being a murderer and all. They were asked to leave after about 15 minutes.

I also met several migrant workers, both short- and long-term in Phuket, who supported Thaksin and therefore saw themselves at Red Shirts. More than in Nakhon, Surat, Krabi, Samui or Hat Yai.

Any informed comment on the above, not sure how good or well respected Dusit Poll is?

On the face of it only 33% support for the govt = a vote of no confidence in the making and a landslide win for the Dems in my book. They (Dems) really need to get the PR machine rolling. Get on the local radio, which is what the villagers listen to all the time it seems to me.

We should welcome the Red rally's; it will expose their ineptitude further, as I suspect supporting numbers will be way below expectations.

Says it all, doesn't it. I just wonder if Plodsarob will call the "supporters" garbage, or are you only garbage if you don't support pheu thai. Maybe they could have video of Thaksin singing screw your mothers at the rally, that would be classic.

If the Democrat spokesman actually beleives this then he must have the memory of a goldfish given the number of governments toppled due to anti-government groups here be they protestors or military.

Well rich teacher we will just have to wait and see if your crowing is indeed justified.

the Dems have already won 2 by elections that PT were expected to win, then there is the BKK mayoral election and we hear that the polls say it is very close in the Don Muang by election next week.

Meanwhile the reds, the militant wing of PT, have no problem attempting to break up Dems meetings going so far as to cause injury in the process.

If it is so certain that PT would win an election why would they allow the reds to do these things?

What are they so scared about that they want to prevent the opposition from being heard?

Will answer that myself;

They are scared of people hearing the truth.

You are right, they will see red (pun intended) and I wouldn't like to be in anyones shoes waving one of those silly little red flags that should say on them I AM STUPID AND PROUD OF IT!!!

I suppose it would be naive to expect somebody to ask for some accurate figures from their government representatives.

Well they better start booking phone boxes for the rallies unless they start paying them again. Maybe they can pay them in rice, that will kill two birds with one stone.

Fine, no problem. Pheu Thai is the majority party in the current coalition government. Mind you why would you need a campaign to startup a (pro-government) movement"? Isn't it obvious that a government just needs proper channels to inform the public of what the government does and why? Don't we also have an Ombudsman to help the public with dealing with the government? Isn't the Pheu Thai party a pro-government movement in itself already?

Anyway let's hope that this means the government will have no problem allowing non-aligned anti-government protesters gathering for a few hours every week.

The Mrs has been showing me pictures on facebook of the reds latest attempt to break up a Dems meeting in Lampang yesterday, (expected to see it as a news story)

Apparently there were several injured by missiles fired from the red side, by catapult and by explosives.

The Pheu Thai Supporters it would seem will hold their rallies anywhere they can disrupt opposition rallies.

Red democracy and freedom of speech in action again.

Yer here the projectiles the redshirts were using...........
