Hi all. I am a 44 year old Australian man who currently holds a non-immigration "o" visa that will expire in early September 2013. I have been married to a Thai national since August 2011 and have a marriage certificate from a Bangkok Amphur. Since arriving in November 2012 I have purchased a massage shop for my wife, a home for us that obviously isn't in my name being a farang and a car and motorbike which are in my name. I am aware of having to show an amount of 400,000 Baht or there about's in my bank account but that is as much information I have on the requirements. I appreciate I can go to a visa specialist for a previously quoted 30,000 Baht but I'm not really interested in paying anyone if I can do it myself. We did arrange my wife's Australian tourist visa prior to moving here with a little bit of our own time and effort.

If you can help could you please point me to any links within this forum or give me some advice as to the requirements of obtaining a marriage visa? Also can you suggest how it works as far as reporting to immigration and what visa will I need if I want to return to Australia? I have heard mentioned a "re-entry visa"?

Thanks in advance.

PS: If you reply could you please keep it on-topic. I am quite comfortable having assets in my wife's name.

Is your "O" visa multi-entry or single-entry?

And what is the latest "Admitted Until" date stamped in your passport (which may well be different from your visa expiry date)?

There is no marriage visa, you are simply applying for a one year extension of your permission to stay, based on the marriage. Go apply with about 30 day remaining on the current permission to stay.

Also, there is no re-entry visa, there is a single and multi entry permit, that keeps your current permission to stay valid, when departing the country, 1000 Baht for single, and 3800 Baht for the multiple.

If you remain in the Thailand 90 consecutive days, you will be required to complete an address report, departing stops the count, and day one starts the day you re-enter Thailand.

Numerous topics mention the required documents, and your wife will need to visit immigration with you.

A Rough Guide.

(6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.

Letter from your Thai Bank showing balance and up to date bank book.

OR.

If income from outside Thailand: Letter from your Embassy showing income. Now may also need proof of income as back up.

If Income from Thailand: Statements showing Income Tax receipts.

Marriage Certificate. (Kor Ror 3)

Marriage Registry entry. (Kor Ror 2)

Wife's Tabbien Baan and ID Card.

Your Passport.

Copies of everything.

Photos of you and your Wife in and around the house.

A map showing the way to your house.

Passport size photos and 1,900 Baht fee.

Take your Wife to be interviewed.

One or two witnesses may be required.

You will be given a 30 day under consideration stamp.

Go back in a month and get the remainder.

I just finished doing my first. They did require witnesses, but they didn't have to come in, just had to have a photo each of them signing the form and copies of their ID cards. I was asked at the office how far each lived from my home.

The photos around the house. I brought in about 8, they took the one in front of the house with the house number, sitting in the living room, and standing in front of open bedroom clothes cabinet containing both mine and my wife"s clothes.

Tell us where you are now living and we could possibly give you better information about what is required at the immigration office where you will be applying for your extension.

There are some offices that require witnesses but most do not.
