Choosing a 2 ring gas hob - table top type

Hi all,

My current gas hob has never been ideal. It has one good ring and a second that is too large and burns partly orange and blackens pans (hence I avoid using it).

I want to buy a good hob with two good, moderately sized, burners. Ideally I would like to see it working and have a fiddle with the knobs to see how the flames adjust. Can anyone recommend a particular hob that is currently available, or, better still, a shop where I can see them working?

I live on the south side of town, but will go anywhere if they actually let you see the hob working...

Thanks.

There is usually a thingy inside the hob (somewhere between knob and ring), where you can adjust how blue/orange the flame is

Choose one that has triple crown burners for each hob. It's more precise and more effective.

If you frequently use a wok than you should have something like 4-5k power per gas hob. Note there is a fundamental difference in gas hobs for woks and standard pans/ pots.

Standard gas burners, especially cast-iron ones, corrode out around the burner holes over time and may be causing your problem. Either that or the air inlet orifice (behind on/off knob panel) is improperly adjusted as mentioned above.

Standard replacement burners are cheap and easily replaced. Any hardware store which sell gas cookers will stock them - Global House, Thai Wasadu or HomePro. There are two different sizes available.

Failing that, buy a good name brand (with stock replacement burners - not imports) cooker at one of the above and have them show you where the air/gas adjustment wheel/shutter is located.

I've been looking round for a bench top gas stove also, and have finally decided on one with two infra-red burners: in other words, instead of there being a 'ring of fire', it's a low red flame all over.

I gave up trying to find a two -burner stove with grill in the middle. They just don't import that model into Thailand. Plenty over the order in Malaysia and Indonesia, made by the same companies.

I also bought a pressure regulator with safety valve. It was only a few baht more, but it means that if the hose drops of the back of the stove (they're not screw fitted - only a hose clamp) then the gas supply is cut off.

Ensure that you buy only hose which is rated for LPG. The pressure is very low, but LPG can permeate through the walls of some hose, if the tap is not turned off at the cylinder after use.

I paid a bit extra and got a thick glass topped stove. Much easier to clean in my opinion.

The stove was bought at Big C in Hang Dong Rd.

Doh! How did I not know about that... A quick bit if furtling and it is working exactly how it should. No need for a new one now. I must owe you a few beers for that little nugget. Thank you...

Thanks everyone else for input too. Much appreciated.
