Paul Gascoigne arrested over suspected drunken assault

Ex-England footballer Paul Gascoigne has been arrested over an alleged drunken assault at a railway station.

The 46-year-old, who left rehab in the USA earlier this year, was taken into custody following the incident at Stevenage, Hertfordshire, on Thursday.

The former Newcastle, Tottenham, Everton and Rangers player was later released without charge, police said.

The Mirror reported a security guard and Gascoigne's ex-wife Cheryl were assaulted in the incident.

Just *once* would they please put this <deleted> in prison. He's been done for drunk driving, assault, cocaine possession and he's walked every time, and as long as he thinks he can walk he'll keep acting with impunity.

Perhaps a harsh lesson that there are consequences to his actions might make him sort himself out.

This looks like this will end in tragedy, sooner rather than later. Awful the power of addiction.

I want to change my title to "Powdering my nose Member".

I'm just worried someone might take it the wrong way.....rolleyes.gif

If you ask me he's in the home straight.

Paul Gascoigne was rushed to hospital last night after worried fans reported seeing him “drunk and sick” before he collapsed outside a hotel.

Australian backpacker Daniel Stubbe, 27, saw the ex-Spurs ace slumped on the ground.

He said: “He had a stick or a crutch and we thought he was just this old disabled guy.

"Then he went down and was wrapped around a bollard.

"I didn’t see him fall, just lying there out cold. He looked so old and so ill.”

Other witnesses used Twitter to message Gazza’s celebrity pals.

One told TV’s Piers Morgan: “Just seen one of the saddest sights, a very drunk Gazza.

"If you can reach out to him or his friends, please do, he still needs help.”

Another person tweeted that they had seen him “very sick, very drunk” getting into a taxi.

Staff at the £90-a-night Royal National Hotel in Euston, Central London, said Gazza was not staying there but had collapsed outside in the courtyard.

Gazza’s nephew Jay Kerrigan, 19, said last night: “This is news to us.

"I just hope for the best for him, I love him, he’s my uncle.”

Ex-cricketer Ronnie Irani, who helped fund Gazza’s £100,000 trip to US rehab, added: “He’s so loved still and that is shown by all the messages.

"His destiny is in his own hands.”

Don't understand why this news is on Thaivisa at all. I see nothing concerning Thailand in this news report. So am I safe to assume that MLB, NFL and NHL players who are arrested over suspected drunken assault will be posted here?

It's not football it's soccer.

I think the thread is relevant, I've known a handful of Gasgoine types in the years I've been here, they're all dead now of course hence a thread like this gives folks a chance to identify with Gasgoigne and do something about it, before it's too late.

Apparently a new moderator weighs in. tongue.png

And, this thread was started by Thaivisa administration. So, Nowhereman's question is misdirected.

My question is why a soccer plays makes the news here but not any American sports. i.e. I just search Thavisa about Aaron Hernandez case,he is/was a football player if you don't know and I came up empty. So my question is why the one sided reporting of news here.

One sided for or against what, football/soccer/any other sport or UK/USA?

So, start a thread about Aaron Hernandez ! Couldn't be more simple. All of your concerns will vanish ! Or...will they ?whistling.gif

American Football Thread is in the main sport section of the forum.

So hopefully said poster will jog off over there and bore everyone with talk about pampered wannabe rugby players wearing ridiculous amounts of padding and running into each other repeatedly, while laughably attempting to describe it as a "sport".

As if he's not going to be able to find a drink if he wants one. Has the guy ever been in jail ? Depends on the individual, but some time in stir with some sort of rehab component has been known to work. Though this guy has the look of dead man walking to me.

Paul Gascoigne fined for Stevenage railway station assault

Former England footballer Paul Gascoigne has been fined £1,000 for assaulting a railway security guard and being drunk and disorderly.

Appearing before magistrates in Stevenage, he admitted attacking Jack Sherrington at the Hertfordshire town's railway station on 4 July.

Assault charges relating to his ex-wife Sheryl Gascoigne, 47, were withdrawn.

The attack on Mr Sherrington took place weeks after the ex-Newcastle, Tottenham and Rangers star left rehab in the US.

The 46-year-old former footballer, who has battled alcoholism for many years, was treated at a clinic in Arizona.

He was travelling from Newcastle to London King's Cross after visiting his sick father, but got off the train at Stevenage.
