Following the recommendation of the sales staff at HomePro, I bought a Mex brand stovetop. It is pretty bad.

It can take up to two minutes for the flames to catch, and the flames will unexpectedly flash up during cooking. We have had three technicians from the local service company to check it: the first said something was wrong with the installation, the second two said nothing was wrong, this model was just designed that way. (When the second technician was checking it, it took him over five minutes to get the smaller burner to stay lit.)

Bottom line is that they will do nothing. We went to HomePro, and they said it was Mex's problem. I tried to find Mex, but all internet searches come up empty. I went back to HomePro and checked boxes for Mex stoptops, ovens, and hot water heaters, and there is no company information on any box.

Does anyone know what my options would be to get this taken care of?

How long have you had the stove?

Homepro are usually pretty good at taking back defective / unwanted kit and issuing a credit note, perhaps they are baulking because you had unauthorised 'technicians' look at it.

EDIT Apparently Mex are part of SMEG http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/432448-mex-appliances/ so their service people could be of help.

SMEG service are here http://www.smeg.co.th/en/contacts/%E0%B8%A8%E0%B8%B9%E0%B8%99%E0%B8%A2%E0%B9%8C%E0%B8%9A%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%B4%E0%B8%81%E0%B8%B2%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%AA%E0%B8%B8%E0%B8%82%E0%B8%AA%E0%B8%A7%E0%B8%B1%E0%B8%AA%E0%B8%94%E0%B8%B4%E0%B9%8C-76

Another couple of thoughts:

Has the unit always misbehaved like this? If not did it start after being cleaned (burner replaced incorrectly)?

Have you tried a new regulator?

It's not something as silly as the bottle being nearly empty is it? (you never know).

We have had it almost two months now. It took the kitchen installer almost a month to put it in, and since then, we've had it examined three times. The technicians were from the authorized technicians from the local company that has the contract for Mex.

THanks for the SMEG head's up.

It has been like this since Day 1. We called the technician within a day or two of it being installed. He told us to get the kitchen installer to put in some air holes into the cabinet. That did nothing. Since then, two different technicians have come out, both saying that this was normal for this model (this is probably Mex's top-of-the-line stovetop.) How waiting five minutes to get a burner to stay lit is "normal" is beyond me.
