AYUTTHAYA: -- Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Thursday visited the Umbralla-branded rice factory in Ayutthaya, four days after a vist by Deputy Commerce Minister Yanyong Phuagrach.

This followed a Facebook comment that the packed rice had been contaminated with toxic chemicals, which raised concerns over Thailand’s rice safety standards.

To assure the public of the safety, Yingluck and accompanying ministers also tested cooked rice at the factory.

Yingluck’s visit is part of the Cabinet mobile meeting during today and tomorrow.

Welcoming Yingluck was Prasit Damrongchietanon, CEO of CP Intertrade. He also showed her the inland container depot and a port, which will accommodate the company’s rice shipment to the South and facilitate the group’s rice exports ahead of the ASEAN Economic Community.

He said that this would help lower the operating cost.

Okay, so she swallows a spoonful of cooked rice and now public confidence is fully restored. See how simple it all is?

Murphy oh Meyer, sometimes I really think this government takes us all to be idiots. Even IF that rice would be contaminated, it's not like anyone had ever claimed that if one ate a spoonful of it, one would immediately drop dead.

Also gotta love that picture. It speaks volumes about her true feelings: "I've GOT to restore public confidence in our rice. But honestly, I'm NOT too confident about eating it. MUST go through this. MUST. Okay, one, two, three, SWALLOW!"

She has finally found her calling, she can taste food prior to it being served to VIP's.as well as the standard main ingredient, of the peoples diet. Now she just has a few more stops to make to check out all facilities involved.

In the mean time get those tasked with inspection of food stuffs out doing their jobs, and clean up this mess you created and the others which you have ignored. This might require some leaving their air conditioned office, learning what fuminagation materials are being used at ALL facilities, frequency, durition, etc and the test and certify for all of those which are or could be hazarous to health.

The PM was the one who demanded charges of contanimated rice be proved, they were, now she needs to approach her task the same way. Who is writting and then who is proof reading the script for the dog and poney show. This whole rice fisco is gathering steam to make the flood look like a inconvienve and its seems to me that people are approaching it with the same mind set with thought nor effort to a simblence of coridinated effort. Instead of tasting rice, she needs to stick a firecracker up a lot of peoples arse, get off of hers and do something proactive for once.

How would she know if she ate contaminated rice or not? I doubt she would pass a Pepsi challenge between contaminated and uncontaminated rice.

That's the smallest spoon and rice bowl I have ever seen n Thailand. And how is she testing the rice for methyl bromide? By eating it? Really? Is the PM and the news in Thailand that stupid? Apparently....

You can fool some of the people some of the time ..........

PM moves to restore public confidence

And what happens if public confidence is not restored is she going to sue the public and throw them in jail ?

BTW is it me or does Dear Yingluck look a bit nervous while she is chomping down on that spoonful ?

No, you're right, she's definitely looking somewhat drawn and concerned...! Look at what happened to the dark-haired Tony Blair after his term in office. Grecian 2000 couldn't even help him...!!

lol - look @ her face, she's not happy is she?

Not in the least notice her eyes were on the camera.

Looked like she was holding an empty spoon to a closed mouth.

Not exactly a picture to inspire confidence.

Not sure what she'd have been concerned about. That specific bowl of rice was probably selected and approved for her consumption only after two days of rigorous testing by two agencies.

Er........no they were not proved.

See BKK post current article.

Just out of curiosity, is contanimated rice unusually active and what is a "simblence?

Is it an old South African expression ??

I wonder if you mean "simblince" a puree made from old mobile phones and dressed with garlic.

Pheu Thai and Yingluck have really stepped in it. The world is watching closely as to how the gov't will handle this fiasco. Rice use to be Thailand's number one export, until now with the Phillipines and Vietnam picking up the slack in supplying the world its rice, while Thailand drops down the ladder of rice exporters. Blame can only be put on Yingluck and Pheu Thai. Another news article from Indonesia explains it better. http://m.thejakartapost.com/news/2013/07/18/rice-safety-fears-thailand.html
