Firstly this topic should be in General.

Secondly, what football pedigree do you have?

After that, unless you have very, very deep pockets and are prepared to lose substantial amounts o money then it's a great idea. Lol.

I would also guess, that you would only be able to own 49% , and none of the stadium.

Anyway good luck with your idea.

And to add, you need to do your own research. Te fact you don't know how many leagues are here is pretty alarming. Sure, though someone will help you spend your money.

I would agree with much of the above.

Investing in Thailand is risky at the best of times. In a football club is even riskier. You will not see any great returns outside owning one of the better supported clubs like Muangthong in Nonthaburi or a provincial side like Chonburi. Don't touch poorly supported teams with a barge pole unless you want to burn your money.

I have heard of very, very few foreign investors in Thai football. I wouldn't bother to be honest. It's highly political, you'll most probably get ripped off and there are surely better ways of using your money, such as setting up a foundation to help poor children learn something. Why not set up a football coaching clinic instead?

That was my idea for that create a own club. Would be like a football school plus I want the team try come up to PL.

Sounds like buy a club is not a good idea.

But If i create my own, I have friends that have piece of land that i can get and build a football field and rooms for the players.

Idea is to give poor children and children without parents a second chance.

It will be like a football school and a football club.

In what division you must begin i thailand when register a new football club?

Im a football coach with uefa advanced diplom, I have been in diff clubs i europe for 15 years.

You will need to get into the regional leagues first, if you go that way.

You will also need to find someone with a bit of influence , as FAT is highly , highly corrupt.

Out of curiosity, the UEFA Diploma, is this different from the Pro Licence?

UEFA advanced is 1 step behind uefa Pro.

To get uefa Pro your need coach PL teams or national teams..

Why do i need sumone corrupt? If team win games then we should go up?

So it's the equivalent of the UEFA B.

Sorry, you must be naive if you think that it is as simple as just winning games here in Thailand.

A foreigner coming in and doing anything like that. Expect every Thai that isn't being helped or advantaged to actively (and co-operatively) cause you as many problems as they can.

How dare he. Who does he think he is. Come here and do that! We'll show him.

Hello there.

I can't answer all your questions but being quite much involved with one of the TPL teams I can tell you a few basic things:

As a foreigner you can't "simply buy" a TPL team.

You would better associate yourself with some well known local personality in a certain area of your choice and create a team with that person. I believe that there is no way you can succeed without strong local connections.

I am sure you know that, but I confirm it: To have a football team is a long term commitment, as well as a heavy (long term) financial burden.

You do not make profit at all with football in Thailand. Even in TPL. Even with sponsors. Even with a good team... So you must be ready to reach your pocket each year.

Football is politicized. Which is a good or bad thing. It depends on the circumstances. It can be very helpful as long as you are open minded and don't think strictly on the football side...

If you succeed in entering the league, you start in second division. Absolute minimum yearly budget for a second division team is 8 million baht. This includes some foreign players.

The difficulty is to enter second division. Not as easy as one might think. You need support and connections again. Not only a good team and finance.

If you succeed in second division and go to first division, your yearly budget jumps to at least 15 million. With good foreign players it goes up, of course... Out of 15 million budget you would be lucky to find sponsors for half of it. The rest comes out of your pocket.

When you make it to TPL... The financial burden is much more important. 60 million budget at least. The big teams like buriram have budgets much over that figure.

In TPL you get sponsors, TV rights, etc..., but you always end up short of money, so you still have to keep your wallet open.

Political connections make everything easier... As long as the team performs. So, keep in mind that the football dream is not only about sport...

All in all... I think that your project is very difficult to achieve. On your own, with money but without strong connections, I would dare to say that it is impossible to achieve.

If your passion is football, you might want to find another way to involve yourself in Thai football.

You might start a smaller scale team, a football academy, work with youngster and participate in local competitions first. After you build up your reputation and connections you can think about going further.

Google "Chiangrai Hills Stadium"... This is a project that was done for a hill tribe team.

You might like the story, why not make a project there...

Such a place is perfect for a good project.

But you still need funds for your team...

Seriously though that's small potatoes, and would now way be enough to get a team into the TPL without lots of other things. Connections, connections...

That was a quick backtrack, from buying a club to coaching in one foul post, don't get disheartened so quickly.

Look at getting involved with a small club like gerry said... if you don't mind losing 25 million baht it should be a fun way to experience Thailand and its sporting culture.

Never lose sight of your dreams.wai2.gif

If you need a contact the poster smokie36 has plenty in the TFA and once was a member of the RL Party in England. He could give you assistance.

If you want to coach a team, a good challenge would be to try to find a coach position in a second division team and work to make the team progress to first division and TPL.

Not only would it be a good challenge for you, but if you succeed you will be loved by the local community.

If, on the other hand, you want to set up a team, an academy, or a nice long term project... You can always send me a message to speak about it.

There are so many sides to Thailand, firstly you have to understand the majority of thais over 30 ish DONT want foreigners there, they tolerate and use them , but fundamentally the majority are against interrogation.

I've a mate who was trying to set up some footie things and got 2ish? years of 'yes ok we will', drove him nuts, cos nothing happened. imo he started to get some where when presidents started to ignore him and some were saying no to him. better to lie than pass negative news on. FRUSTRATING

And always in their eyes you cant possibly understand thais or anything thai, s o , to start a thai football club up, as someone said b4, IMo it will b v v much you against the world, an iinner city coaching center, maybe a round the thai port area?, plenty of really poor thais there may well appreciate it, and move on from there, but DO NOT 'FLASH YOUR CASH'
