It's my expirience at that "hospital"

I had motorbike incident and my left hand bones was out of joints(not brocken)

So, nearest hospital was City hospital.Time about 5 pm

Reception - half sleeping 3! nurses look to me and said go to emergency room.No gides,no help.

Emergency room - 8 nurses + 2 doctor (room was empty) look to me,smiling and start filling an papers.No first aid,no checking, nothing

After 40 minutes awaiting an office girls came to me and ask about paid 5000 baht deposit.Note,I'm not touirist,already had medical insurance and etc.

For simple question for that paid deposit if staff do nothing no answer.

Staff try speak on English but you must be telepathist for undersdand this thaiglish.

So I went to Memorial hospital,after 5 min X-ray done,bone back to place,additional x-ray,an medication for pain relief.Fast and effective.Price 1500 baht.

So if you want to die - welcome to Pattaya City Hospital

2 Days ago I went to The Pattaya City Hospital, Soi Bouakow, my first time to see the Doctor.

I was informed immediately that it would be 600 Baht to see the Doctor.

I had an X ray on my Back. Cost of 1.760 Baht.

TOTAL BILL 2.360 Baht.

I went to this Hospital as I was under the impression (after reading the Hospital Facebook Page)

that it would be a pleasant experience and not too expensive.

Now I think it's the same as the rest of them, Money Motivated !

I aired my views on the Hospital's Facebook Page, and they deleted my comment immediately.

But why did you bring the GF with you? Did you think that no one speaks English at the hospital? Almost as bad as the farang that bring their GF to immigration.

Sorry man, but you should leave the GF at home next time, then the doctors and other staff will talk with you.

I never take a girlfriend along as my wife does'nt allow me to have any ,but we go almost everywhere together and have done for the past 20 years ,and why shouldn't a man take his g/f with him? or are you the sort of person who believes women should be seen and not heard?

Often it shows dependency on a translator unable to do things yourself ect. Some people don't like it. I am caught in the middle I realize sometimes its good to have a native speaker with you on the other hand it does make you look stupid at times and it hinders your own development of language skills. So I will just say there is a time and place for both.

I've seen people in certain situations where the staff an expat is interacting with can speak English, but since the expat had brought the significant other along as a translator, the thai staff will save the girlfriend's face and not speak to the expat directly, which could leads to misunderstanding as the girlfiend might have limited vocabulary compared to the english speaking thai staff.

Exactly. A lot of these girlfriends can hardly speak English. Why is the default that they don't work. More like they can't cope on their own.

I know , but it's not acting like a normal government hospital. Unexpected fees are being added to the bill, higher cost on medicine etc. It is run like a private hospital. Prices are maybe lower than other private hospitals in the area but still a ripoff compared to real government hospitals that most Thais will use.

As pointed out numerous times n the health forum, the quality of care should be based on the name of the doctor you see or who sees you. Perhaps you are correct, the better doctors might want more money and tend to the more expensive private hospitals and patients. But as a blanket statement there will be exceptions and I was lucky enough to experience that. Finding the better and best doctors and them seeing them might be a job in itself, they may float in and out of different hospitals and clinics. I find the majority of doctors in the west and the east fall far short, and I would be better off with no treatment or self treatment, I think because they are in the business to make money. (And so many of therm play god) If i ever get seriously or acutely ill, my plan is to find the best ancient Chinese medical doctor I can find, they tend to the whole patient and the whole body system, not just focus on the symptoms. Their medicines are completely natural, no side effects, and address the (immune) imbalances in the person. One simply must be willing to suffer the tastes. For all we know, many doctors patients and treatments (unconsciously) rely on the placebo effect. I believe the placebo rate is around 33%, nothing to shake a stick at. What scares the s*** out of me are the mistakes doctors make and the patients who end up worse due to seeing a doctor, and those that contract other illnesses exposed to in hospital. My diatribe is over for now. May it lead to an interesting discussion and helpful advice.

My comments are based on personal experience and of those I know very well both Thai and expat. Personally over the past 12 years I have had experiences at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital including three surgeries including hospital stays and all have been wonderful experiences, my only bad experience was the dental clinic and she was trying to sale something i did not need or want.

Pattaya International Hospital I have had good experiences there with the GP on call, a former Military Doctor, he was excellent, and the Dermatologist was also very good.

I have known people go to the new Pattaya City Hospital, and been turned away, I know of one young lady who they could not diagnose and turned her away after 18 hours, she died 24 hours later (sepsis).

My friend lives behind this hospital and his mate had a stroke they called the hospital and they refused to come to pick him up, while 4 ambulances sat out front not being used.

Memorial hospital treated my friend for a appendicitis, when they close d him up they twisted his lower intestine so nothing would pass , , then when he wanted to go to another hospital they refused to let him go until a lawyer got involved (nothing to do with the bill), he was moved to another hospital and had to endure a second surgery to repair there twisted intestine.

I have also been at numerous Thai government hospitals in various parts of Thailand and they quality of care is very questionable. I will always remember going in to the Korat government hospital with my wife father and sitting close by I could see the 6 doctors ( all looking liked kids), there were 5 people in the triage unit and the doctors had 2 computers in front of them, as i watched the circus occur i watched two different doctors go to the computers and pull up Google search...A true story.

In this country, Most good physicians will be working at a good hospital, it enhances there income, ability to work in professional environments with professional staff and equipment.

The better Physicians will work shift work from hospital to hospital to also enhance there income but to also gain a reputation in that area's hospital

Don't know how true this is but read heard this from Thai social medias that one accident victim, minor wound etc.. went to the Soi Buakao hospital A&E only to were told they don't have supplies like bandages and gauze, had to have relative walk out and buy the necessary supplies from a pharmacy and went back to the doctor to get operated on.

Looks like the hospital (or parts of it) is being run/staffed by a private hospital from Bangkok, not the usual health ministry though. Maybe something to do with that it falls under the supervision of Pattaya City Hall instead of the health Ministry?

Even government hospital proper like Banglamung which is pretty dire, looks more consistent in their level of care than this.

Government hospital can be good, Queen Sawang in Sriracha is good, has decent doctors but is oversubscribed.

Incompetent looking doctors you see around, especially in upcountry hospitals are probably interns serving their first few years' in government hospitals, which they are contractually obligated to as a condition of their education, once their term is up, most would leave for private hospitals where conditions and pay are far better.

And a doctor who mumbles through everything.

I did see the Doctor I saw previously and the g/f made a note of his name. The next appointment will be changed to get to see him.

Cannot fault the nursing staff.

I don't see it either. You said it was reasonable cost in the top post. About 850 for blood tests is pretty good compared to the place on Soi 4.

Sorry man, but you should leave the GF at home next time, then the doctors and other staff will talk with you.

I would always take my wife with me to anywhere in Thailand, as would most people that have any foresight. English is not comprehensively spoken in Thailand, so better to have some one that can translate if required.

perhaps the extra costs of keeping the overnight guest on for a couple of hours, could require some to go it alone.

Went yesterday. to Pattaya City. Had X-ray, injection, plenty of meds .Nice lady doctor, and friendly very competent staff .In and out in just over 2 hours

Bill was 1224 .Have not been there for a long time --maybe I was lucky but I arrived at 9.30 and got through the initial stages pretty fast,even though it was quite busy

lots of thaI doctors would rather speak in their native tongue its only natural, i have taken my g/f  along to the hospital in Ekkamai when i was there, she was amazing,  (speaks/writes english better than me lol) could converse better than me and i could see it put the doctor at ease as well so yes i would do this every time.
