Bangkok is getting involved as it is perceived that the powers in Phuket are unable to fix the problems here.

Is this just a more of the usual, an empty gesture? Or, will things get fixed and people go to jail?

Personally, I think pressure has been applied by outside countries so that Bangkok has to be seen to be doing something.

I really, really wish that I could believe that things are going to change, but I think it is more empty words. Within two months, it will all die down and we will be where we started.

A good clue is that there has been no discussion about lowering tuk-tuk and taxi prices.

Why do they insist on putting ridiculous time lines on these very seroius problems? I understand a time frame is needed, but do the publice need to know this? arguably they are arbritrary, at best! Particularly when this is the umpteenth time such a time frame has been set, reached and breached!

Another giveaway is that the tuk-tuk and taxi associations actually met with the DSI and complained about illegal vehicles. They don't see themselves as the problem. They think that the DSI is going to help them.

Surreal, or what?

Nothing will change. Phuket is corrupt and rotten from the Governor's office to the local councils to the police to the people themselves.

Look at the Guv'ner of Patong - this guy doesnt even attempt to hide his gangster affiliations!

Offence is the best defence? Or "What is required to turn the investigation from us to these illegal taxis?"
