Jefrey Rokels talks with a rescue worker before being taken to hospital to be patched up.

PHUKET: A German man was set upon in Patong early yesterday (August 11) after he gave the finger to a couple of men on a motorbike.

Pol Col Prateung Ponmana of Kathu Police said that police were called by a staff member of a bar on the beach road, near the intersection with Soi Sea Pearl.

The barman told officers that the German and his wife were crossing the road when they were almost run over by a motorbike with two Asian men on board, being driven at high speed.

The German waved his middle finger at the two men. Seeing this, they turned around, came back and proceeded to give him a robust lesson in minding his manners, using their fists and feet.

Having cut his head and given him a bloody nose, they then sped off again.

The victim, Jefrey Rokels, 47, was taken to Patong Hospital where a couple of stitches were inserted into the wound on his scalp.

ps I like that "Asian" men bit, maybe that's is a new policy, blame the Asian looking men. Can't be having people thinking that Thais would do such a thing can we? coffee1.gif

These guys almost ran over the German and his wife. Pot and kettle come to mind. And it sounds like the writer of this article is quite pleased with the outcome.

Fist is the new smile.

He's right, most people who get a beating have invited it themselves.

Thainess Promotion: Never, under any circumstances make any hand gestures, facial gestures, eye contact, or fart in the general direction of anyone in Thailand. This could lead to a violent "misunderstanding" and end with you in the hospital. And a new directive has been issued by "Thainess Promotion" that all Thais associated with crimes will now be described as "Asian-Looking" and not "Thai" as to maybe lead readers to believe that hyper violent acts could possibly be done by Chinese,Koreans,Japanese, or any other "Asian" country...other than Thai.

Looks like the 2 Asian men caused the entire incident ...

"The barman told officers that the German and his wife were crossing the road when they were almost run over by a motorbike with two Asian men on board, being driven at high speed."

With incidents like this, it's not hard to see why the TAT will not be promoting Phuket next year.

If he had just used the zebra crossing all of this could have been avoided...

They forgot to put on the news "2 Asian men like "The Hulk" riding on a motorbike" cheesy.gif , whatever you do, you're going to loose... if you beat them down, you're going to jail, but if they beat you down you're going to hospital..."AMAZING THAILAND"

Yes you are quite correct, the motorbike would have stopped to give way to the pedestrians. whistling.gif

Try waving your middle finger in the Singapore and you will be put in gaol.

The 2 Asian looking men might have been from another asian country. Not necessarily Thailand. They could have been Japanese

I think they will shoot the zebra first and then proceed with the beating

Not correct NKM.

Next year the TAT will be revising the current "cat bags" for distribution and use in Phuket.

There will be three bags released for use on the island. None will feature the Siamese moggy. The first will feature a photo of a knife wielding bag snatcher out of his mind on ya ice, the second will have two grinning Australian bikie members holding up their illegal handguns for the camera...and the third...two young tourist girls being menaced by a group of jet ski operators as they withdrawn 50,000 THB from an ATM on beach road...

Well this is Phuket, the guy and his wife would normally of been executed in the street. "Phuket lessons" are normally a lot lot worse than a head kicked to the curb and a beating...

Another couple of foreign tourists living the dream in Phuket....wai2.gif Will they be back next year?

I'm surprised he is even on Phuket. Most of his fellow countrymen have "waved their finger" at Phuket, in favour of other destinations.

Sure they were probably in town for the Yakuza convention.

Didn't know there were stupid Thais in Mallorca.

Excuse me!

Since when is it safe to use the zebra in Thailand?

You have to run for your life there too...

The article seems to insinuate that the thing that was wrong here was the fingerwaving in retaliation for the almost being killed or injured by dangerous driving. The dangerous driving was, by implication, overlooked.

What are foreigners supposed to do in such circumstances? Wai?

2 Asian Men

Well if you read the UK papers that means MUSLIM men LOL

The problem was that the silly couple thought that walking across the street, the two asian idiots traveling at an illegal high speed would stop and let them cross as in most countries as the law dictates.

The Beach Road is One-Way, so fine them for driving against the traffic. They obviously had turned around to come back...
