How much for 17 inch Toyota alloys/tyres?

Featured Replies

Good evening,

Could anyone please advise on what price I could expect to get for selling my brand new 17 inch tyres with Toyota alloys straight from showroom? They are Michelin tyres and as mentioned the toyota alloys for Hilux pickup (Pre-runner). I had been quoted around 30,000 for everything but would be grateful for any experiences from TV members if this is about right. I would be changing these to 20-inch tyres with different alloys.

Furthermore, could anyone advise on whether I have to inform the insurance company over here if I change the tyres to 20-inch as well as putting on a back Carryboy top-up?

Thanks again in advance for any help, gratefully received!

You will be lucky to get 8000฿ for the lot!

What has brought you to this conclusion, considering I have visited 2 different shops, and been quoted around 30,000 Baht? As mentioned they are brand new, (4 days old to be exact) and I have been quoted in the range of around 30,000 baht. I am somewhat intrigued as to how I would be "...lucky to get 8000 baht for the lot".

Not a problem, thanks for reply....yep 30,000 baht is a good price but I was just wondering if any others had done the same and managed to squeeze/negotiate a few extra baht out of it....

Based on my 17", though Civic 2.0, tires. Around 5000+/tire and another 6k+/rim. 20k + 24k or 44k for the set. So 30k for 2nd hand, and yes I know they are only 4 days old but will still be considered 2nd hand, seems pretty good.

Good luck with finding a new set, it's always good to put your own personal stamp on a new car or pick-up, remember dealers will never lose money, 30,000฿ is good!!

Thanks again for replies, much appreciated!

Yep, I suppose they are 2nd hand and 30k is a very decent price...

Have a good night and thank you again!

Pretty sure I got offered about the same for my 17" Ranger Rims and tyres, mine were 2 hours old and had a BKK to PTY run on them........... kept them so I could put them on when going into the dealership, you should ask Toyota if there is any warranty issues (Steering/suspension) to be expected running non OEM (Larger and heavier) rims.

Richy, 30k is a reasonable price for new 17 inch tyres and OEM alloy wheels. I was offered the same a couple of years ago and did not get any better offers at the time.

As spoonman said, you might want to consider hanging on to the OEM wheels, at least for the warranty period, just in case. Most manufactures can use fitting of unapproved / non OEM accessories as a warranty excuse if it suits. If a drive-train related issue appeared in the future, swapping the OEM wheel back on might be handy.

If the Hilux wheels are hub centered and you go for the 20 inch wheels, shops in LOS usually use simple spacer rings to adapt the OEM hub to the after market wheel. They do not always put a little grease between the hub and spacer to reduce corrosion and to stop the spacers seizing on the hub. If this happens and you get a flat after a while, the spacer can come out of the wheel and get stuck on the hub, preventing the OEM spare from fitting. They can be a real bugger to remove when this happens.

Thanks Jitar / Spoonman....

I never thought about the scenario of warranty issues with larger wheels....one of the main reasons I had bought from new was the Warranty so to void this over having nicer wheels would defeat the purpose.....i'll be sure to ask the dealership this week before I do anything...unfortunately I dont have much space to store the alloys so this would prove a bit of a problem...

On a separate issue, would having a carryboy top up affect the warranty as well as insurance...i.e. would I have to notify the insurance company?

Thanks again!

I drove straight from the toyota shop pattaya with a new prerunner and changed wheels from 17 with michelin to 20 with yokohama in january last year

got 30000 for the old, paid 59000 for the new set of 4

also put top up cover the same week at boy air and sound

no issues with insurance when renew this year with LMG, they just took some pictures
