BANGKOK: -- THE METROPOLITAN Police Division 8 has launched a disciplinary probe against Pol Lt-Colonel Burin Lalitathada, an inspector at Bang Yi Rua Police Station, for reportedly spraying the investigation room in Bangkok's Khlong Tan Police Station with bullets from an M16 rifle before fleeing. Nobody was killed or injured in the assault.

Division commander Pol Maj-General Rassadakorn Yingyong said Burin - who was wanted on charges of illegal possession of a war weapon and ammunition, and firing in public without sound reason - is now temporarily suspended from civil service. He faces disciplinary investigation by the Bang Yi Rua Police Station and criminal code action from the Khlong Tan branch.

Meanwhile, Pol Lt-Colonel Singha Wangwongthong, deputy superintendent of Kanchanaburi's Sangkhla Buri Police Station, said Burin had been apprehended near the border with Myanmar. Police also found an M16 rifle, a pistol and some explosives in the suspect's car. Burin was going to be escorted to Bangkok later last night.

It was initially believed that Burin did this because he was unhappy about his recent transfer from his post as investigating officer at Khlong Tan station to a desk job at the Bang Yi Rua station, or due to a personal conflict.

Police spokesman Pol Maj-General Piya Uthayo said Burin was often absent while serving at the Khlong Tan station and might have been doing drugs.

Yes....Lambo was his hero....he only needs some face paint!

Probably go from the desk job to an "inactive post".....whatever that is.

I'm glad it's only temporary. Anything more would simply be unfair. <deleted>.

Well he fled the scene, once captured he would be moved to inactive post :)

10,000000 guns that are known about! so you can double that. Thailand is a dangerous place!

So is everywhere else if you mix with dangerous people and hang around dangerous places!

So I guess the lesson here is, do not interfere in another's scam and move people to inactive posts against their will. Arrested for assaultcheesy.gif what a joke how about conduct endangering life or even attempted murder? Guess he will now get his choice of inactive posts so as not to upset him further.

He was often absent from duty and might have been doing drugs yet nothing much was done apart from a transfer. A television report quoted a colleague as saying he was good man but did have bad temper. As usual the BIB do nothing until it's too late.

yep no signs of anger management issues with him.thumbsup.gif

Exactly, spraying a room with an M16 is a little more serious than assault and I'm presuming the firearm was held illegally.

The spokesman called it a war weapon and was discharged without sound reason but he was pissed off, isn't that a sound reason in Thailand ?

Well, I guess that since police positions are bought rather than gained by merit, a few bad apples would be bound to slip in here and there. Also shows the lack of a correlation between actions and consequences that the Thai police seem to display on a regular basis. They seem to actually believe they can do anything they want. Of course this is not good for you if you are in their way.....

No periodic or random drug tests for the police force? My old dept. had a cup for coffee and one for the test. Do they test their evidence lab crews? These are where we found the baddies mostly.

He looks really worried about being caught. All his jewelry and mobile phone are still in order and he doesn't even have to wear cuffs. And is that his gun in a holster on his left side? What a happy looking thug.
