I'm planning to fly from Cambodia to Bangkok by AirAsia and from there on, while I'm not leaving the airport, I'll continue my flight the same day with China Airlines to my home country. My passport will have only a few weeks validity before it expires.

1) Will I be allowed inside Thailand, even though my passport has a validity less than 6 months, for the reason that I'm in transit? (But how would the immigration officer know that I'm in transit and won't leave the airport?)

2) Will AirAsia (flight Phnnom Penh- Bangkok) allow me on board ?

3) And what about China Airlines (flight Bangkok-Home Country)?

For entering Thailand your passport must have validity of your stay.

6 months rule for Thailand was scrapped long time ago.

You will enter Thailand as AirAsia lands on Don Muang airport and you will leave from Suvarnabhumi Airport

So in my case the validity of my passport wouldn't be a problem, since I only will be in Thailand for one day?

Really 2 1/2 years ago cathay would not let me on the plane with less then six months but like you say things may have changed

If your stay is 12 hours or less there will not be a problem but for entry into Thailand if on a Chinese passport it would require six month validity. It is only for some countries that the rule has been changed to validity for intended period of stay.

The 12 hours is only for remaining in the transit area of the airport.

It does apply in this instance.

AirAsia lands on Don Muang airport and you will leave from Suvarnabhumi Airport

You have to leave transit to get to the other airport

If OP is not eligible for a visa exempt entry or visa on arrival he will need to aply for a visa before traveling.

My home country is in Europe, and I'm eligilble for a visa exempt entry/visa on arrival.

What about the airline companies, both AirAsia and China Airlines : will they make life difficult for me?

You should not have any problem. Six month rule does not apply to visa exempt entries.

Be sure you have enough time to change airports (5 hours).

I'm not applying for a visa on arrival, but am eligible for visa exempt entry on arrival. So again, the 6 month validity rule of passport does not apply to me?

if they require you to have 6 months left to stay for 15 days, why wouldnt they require the same for 30 days?

OK you can to go to the TIMATIC/IATA website here ( http://www.iatatravelcentre.com/passport-visa-health-travel-document-requirements.htm#) It is cumbersome to work your way through it but you'll get good results [there used to be an easier to navigate route via the Delta Airlines site but I can't find it now.]

TIMATIC is what almost all airlines use to qualify you for international flight - the central cleaning house if you will - [the airlines serve as the immigration cop -if they screw up they get fined by the 'offended' country and it is more than a wrist slap]

Since it seems from your post you'll be traveling back to your home country passport validity is not much of an issue. Cambodia - UK? via DMK to BKK dosen't look like a problem. The thing you need to be concerned with in TIMATIC is the Transit Counry info [Thailand] and from the quick test I did you'll pass - but what do I know? I'm in Mexico but former EAL international reservations agent/author Airfare Secrets [long out of print] and have LH Tariff certs 1&2

You should be fine - you are heading home

Because for VOA you are applying for a visa and that requires 6 month validity.

A 30 day visa exempt entry has different rules.

Q: I would like to go to Thailand for vacation for 2 weeks. I hold American passport. Do I need a visa?

A: Nationals of the United States of America and 41 other countries are eligible

to travel to Thailand, for tourism purpose, with the exemption of visa and

are permitted to stay in the Kingdom for a period of not exceeding 30 days.

Therefore, you do not need a visa.

However, please make sure that you are in possession of a passport valid for

at least 6 months, a round-trip air ticket, and adequate finances equivalent to

at least 10,000 Baht per person or 20,000 Baht per family. Otherwise, you may be

inconvenienced upon entry into the country.
