Thai govt given 30 more days to explain refusal to seize ex-PM Thaksin's passport

It would have been difficult for him to leave the country without a passport therefore it was not seized.

But thats not the answer he is going to get and he knows it so what's the point of asking it in the first place.

He had a passport when he was allowed to leave the country for the Olympic Games in China & promise dto return & fight the charges against him. However, he was later convicted & sentenced & did not return since after which his passport (diplomatic) was revoked. Last year he was given a new passport.

Worgeordie

Everybody knows the answer, just nobody wants to say it, in the hope

that it goes away ? and was it an ordinary Thai passport or a Diplomatic

one ?

I saw that on her recent trip to Africa the PM signed agreements with the countries she visited giving reciprocal special privileges to diplomatic passport holders from Thailand and those two countries.

An indication perhaps Worgeordie?

More untruths - The Thai Africa Initiative makes no mention of "special privileges to diplomatic passport holders from Thailand and those two countries"

Try this if you want to know what it entails (I know you don't want to, you just wanted to slap out more mistruths in the hope that somebody else will pick up on it and repeat as gospel, but humour me, eh?)

Ok jabec read this, then post an apology

Thailand, Mozambique aim to double bilateral trade in five years

After their meeting, the Thai and Mozambican leaders presided over the signing of seven agreements and memoranda of understanding on technical, trade, economic, aviation, tourism, and energy cooperation as well as the waiving of visas for holders of diplomatic and official passports. how many times is that now? could go in the guiness book of records surelly!

A hub perhaps ?...

BTW why do they need to seize our man in Dubai's PP, surely just cancelling/revoking it is all that needs to be done ?

I understood that he is not in Dubai, I dont know where hes run to though?

I despise double standards, so that one criminal on the run had a diplomatic passport rushed to him in person by the FM, who also happens to be his cousin, means that all Thai criminals on the run should receive the same treatment.

Only fly in the ointment is that in Dr.Thaksin's case a special passport office had to be opened just for them to print out his important travel documents. If you will remember there was a bit of a flood that left the govts normal passport office a few meters under stagnant water. I would like to see this tenacity in rushing a passport to all convicted criminals running away from a jail term.

Or alternatively, it may be easier just to follow the law, and not give any passports to any convicted crims on the run?

Especially when this double standard master, one Surapong Tovichakchaikul, spent the years 1996 - 2006 in the Democrat party and used to criticize Thaksin.

The government standoff on this issue borders criminal neglegence ,total incompotence and an arrogance beyond belief. It also casts a dark veil over the integrity of the judiciary as well. They are on one hand asking the public to have faith in their integrity and ability and on the other side of the coin they are treating the public as mindless Kwai. When will the PM and her nepotistic inner circle come to the realisation that they are regarded as greedy and corrupt buffoons by anyone with a hint of intellect.

At least the powers at be are being sensible about this.

How would he get home without his passport?

In chains with an armed escort. He is after all a fugitive from justice.

Or in a box. Whichever comes first.

The Mrs who plays on it tells me it is reported on facebook that Dubai has told him he is no longer welcome and that China has told him he can stay in HK but is not to travel to the mainland.

If this is true and his main refuge is closed to him then he may need his other passports to get a place to stay in Africa.

Shinawatra's are probably hoping amnesty will be implemented in the next 30 days, so seizing (or retroactively not having seized) the passport will be a moot point when Thaksin is granted amnesty and escapes his conviction and numerous other charges.

There we have it!!!wai.gif

Just business as usual here. They have no idea or really don't care how those with some sense and experience in areas that operate under law and accountability would perceive this whole foolishness. Hub of passports now....

Thai passports only last 5 years. Thus What happens when his passport expires? Assume he has had it 2/3 years now?

there is a 10 year passport available.

......rulers make their own rules, obviously........

....as history has shown us time and again........absolute power corrupts....absolutely.....

In the absense of any clear strong leader , Thailand is lucky to have Thaksin governing by proxy of his sister .

What a silly attempt at political face saving this is . Thaksin already has one or more other national passports and can travel where he likes apart from Thailand .

Fugitive ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra has already been issued with his new Thai passport, Foreign Ministry's spokesman Thani Thongpakdi said Friday.

The Foreign Ministry issued the passport for Thaksin on October 26 and sent it to him in Abu Dhai, UAE, via diplomatic pouch on the same day, he said.

Earlier Foreign Minister Surapong Tohvichakchaikul said his ministry had repealed the passport ban on Thaksin, which was issued by former foreign minister Kasit Piromya.

Excuse my ignorance but how does a convicted criminal living in self imposed exile, get another passport???

Money talks of course but just as relevant is that this government do not consider or treat him as a criminal.
