Need an update on Taxi Meters or Baht Bus Flate Rates?

I looked into the Archives on this subject and was hoping to find some new info , but not so.

2012 was last post. The wife and I just just moved to Naklua ,right on Pattaya's edge near Nong Yai Rd . 8 ,near Nong Yai WAT

.I lived in Patong for 22 years and from '88 to '93 I lived in Bangkok. I often see metered taxis here with a Local area code number. Can you call for a pick-up like in Bkk or is it a rip-off like in Phuket where they wanted 200B to go 1/2K.

to our shophouse from Jungceylon Shopping Center....approximately a1minute trip!

Or if any one can recommend a good driver in our area for short rides not short times! Although , it is only a 10 or 15 min. trip to where we need to go, it would be much appreciated . Thanks,BB

I stopped three taxi meters last Friday at around 7pm. None of them wanted to switch on the meter. They did want to take me if I agreed on the flat fare of 100 Baht.

I PM'd Chris and he replied to me:

"Its was from Pattaya Klang Soi 12 to Walking Street/Pattaya Tai."

I'm not sure how far that is, but depending on traffic I'm guessing 5minutes,

maybe 10? But as I said ,having been here many times in past before we moved ,I just don't know all the streets , but in Phuket it'd be 200B minimum!

Hi

I live in naklua but have to admit not familiar with your address, I pay 10 baht on a baht bus to get in to central pattaya.

This from soi 27 or soi Wong Amat to sois 7/8 Pattaya Beach Road, would be same cost to go to Walking Street.

Not sure if this is the info you`re after but thought I`d post in case you`re not aware.

If you want a Private charter on a bahtbus they`ll likely ask for 150 baht.

Meter taxis I`ve no idea.

A friend from Phuket visited recently and commented how much cheaper the baht buses were here.

Hope that helps a bit.smile.png

Not any update ?

I've found this article (february 2011) Metered-taxi operators want unsanctioned cabs curbed in drive for customers

"Pattaya Taxi Cooperative President Tawat Puekboon-nark (tel. 081 983 8716, (you can call for a taxi at this number too) said his organization now has nearly 100 metered taxis under its jurisdiction."

I called this number and asked "how much the ride from soi siam country club to Walking Street?"

Answer: "No meters, price 400 bahts"

"Suworn Udondej (tel. 081 590 2250, which can also be used to call for a taxi, along with the company phone number 038 713 537), owner of Udomdath Transport Ltd. Part., said he currently operates 18 taxis and has plans to expand to 60 within four months.

...

He said he hopes the city cracks down on the rogue taxis to improve the image of public transport in Pattaya."

I called the first number and asked "Do you turn on the meters?"

Answer: "No"

Looked up your street on Google Earth. You are well and truly on what is called the Dark Side here - east of Sukhumvit. Not far from the crocodile farm.

I have no idea of how transport works in that area. I sincerely doubt that there is any routine public transport, so your best bet might be to speak with neighbors to determine a nearby location where private taxi drivers - moto and car - hang out, and use them to get to Pattaya Nua (North Pattaya Road) where you can access baht bus routes. Once you are on a baht bus route, it becomes dirt cheap - i.e., from Pattaya Nua westbound to Dolphin Circle then southbound on the beach road all the way to Walking Street for 10 baht.

I thought let's have some fun with them. - but the best deal i'd got from tukcom (it-city) to the dark side (makrapachan) was 400 THB. so i took a motorcycle taxi for 100 thb.

one has to wonder! is there a secret competition between pattaya and phuket who'd rip off customers the most?

In bangkok you get a taxi (meter on !) from don muang tothe city center for something like 130 thb and it is really convenient. In pattaya or phuket you earn yourself a large drink of your choice, if you get those damn drivers to simply take those hats, caps or toilet roll covers off the meter!
