Greetings Trend Setters

Out and about today and at the local shopping centre, they had the A/N on display.

I have to admit I thought it looked quite nice.

They have the Veloster and the Sports Turbo model but only the Veloster showing.

The Veloster is 1 299 000 Baht and the turbo a whopping 1 739 000THB.

No doubt due to the import taxes etc.

Was wondering if anyone has seen one or has any opinions? I like it but it's more

expensive than the top of the line Focus. I also notice that the warrantee is for 3

years whereas in Australia, it's 5 and I believe in the US it's 10.

At those prices, I can't imagine they'd be a big seller. Maybe IMHO can come along

with some info.

Velostar certainly has an appealing design, and I particularly like the single rear side door idea. Unfortunately, the price would put me off.

They are about 850,000 THB equivalent in the UK, so a ridiculous surcharge of 50% added in Thailand makes it difficult to swallow.

The only negative I found was the rear quarter view is very restricted - ok, I know it has rear-view mirrors - but I like to use rear-view mirrors as a secondary view.

In the US it ranges from $17,600 (THB 545,600) for the base model, to $28,325 (THB 878,075) for the fully loaded turbo.

My concerns would be service availability and resale. If you live close to a good service center, plan to keep it a while, and like it, go for it. It is good looking, at least in the photos.

I never thought I would say this "You would consider that over a Ford Focus!!!"

Just saying that I like the looks. I like hatches and there isn't a lot of choice here.

As others have indicated, the inflated price makes it a hard sell.

A nice looking ride though.

Looks decent, BUT the price...OMG. For the price of the Turbo you can nearly get a VW GOLF GTI and you can soon (next month) order a new Volvo V40 (with a 200HP engine). Those 2 cars are certainly a notch higher in the quality department than the Hyundai.

If the Veloster Turbo would go for the Regular versions money than it might be interesting. Or you can get a Grey market Mini Cooper S for just above 2m i think. And how much was the Benz A250, around 2.4 or so....I would surely spend another 600K and go for that.

so, really the price is the downfall here. Resale would be terrible as nobody (I assume) would buy a second hand Hyundai over a million Baht.

Yes, that is what I though too. So what is happens next month, as you wrote?

Well at that date AUGUST 2013 the V40 wasn't out yet, that is why I stated "next month" because I got the information that it would be available around Sept-Oct 2013. Of course now this is all "old news".....car came out, decent enough price and quite good engine spec.
